Pioneer Days a big success Blackstock Area News by Joyce Kelly This past week has been a very exciting one at Cartwright Central Public School various displays of Pioneer crafts or ac- tivities were set-up and described by the student. Many speakers who told of different subjects visited the school. The students and teachers dressed in Pioneer Clothing on Thursday for picture-taking day. It was certainly a very suc- cessful week dues the hard effort of many of the staff who have great knowledge in this field. Blackstock lost a very fine lady last week with the passing of Mrs. Effel Forder. Sympathy to her husband William Forder, her daughter Joyce and with Pioneer Days. Each day her brother Earle Brad- burn and other members of her family and her many friends. The ser- vice was held on Thurs- day from Port Perry " Funeral Chapel. Sympathy is also ex- tended to Ross and Marie Tysick and family on the very sudden passing of Ross' father. This is the second bereavement that this family has suffered in the past two weeks. Your many friends are thinking about you. Congratulations to Cheryl (Wright) DeJong, who received her Masters in Education in Language and Learning Disabilities from York University recently. Un- fortunately Cheryl was not able to attend the ceremonies following the birth of her daughter. There are still open- ings in the Blackstock Mixed Curling Bonspiel on Saturday, November 24 withdraws at 9 and 11 a.m. The Banquet and Dance following the curl- ing is open to everyone who wishes to enjoy an evening out. Music will be provided by Glen baby 'Howsam. Call Dale and Janet Van Camp at 986-0097 or any other member of the curling executive for more information. Bill and Sheila Shor- tridge and girls spent a weekend recently with Jack and Jill Price of St. Catherines. : On December 1, the Annual Blackstock Lions' Club Turkey Roll will be held in the Blackstock Recreation Centre. For those who do not know how a turkey roll works- there are 25 tickets sold on each turkey with the holder of the lucky number winn- ing the turkey. wv » 4 Mrs. George Bryant and Mr. Gordon Paisley attended the Scholarship Presentation at the University of Guelph recently. At that ceremony Dwayne Bryant received an en- trance scholarship. They were pleased to see John Larmer who also receiv- ed a scholarship won in the first year of his course. Robert Green was presented with his entrance scholarship in absentia. Congratula- tions to these young men. On Wednesday even- ing the First Cartwright Ladies' Auxiliary held their meeting at the Blackstock Recreation Centre. Sixteen mothers of boys and girls in the Cartwright Scouting- Guiding Movement were in attendance. The election of officers for the coming year was held. Kathy Hill will assume the office of President; Judy Reader will remain Vice- President with Rosemary Hepburn as "COME ON DOWN?" Secretary and Muriel Simms as Treasurer. Plans were finalized for the flea market this Saturday. The next meeting is December 5th at which time the officers will be installed and five year pins will be award- ed. Barb Weir, Reporter. At the regular meeting of the Lions Club on Wednesday, December 5, aR.C.M.P. officer will speak on Drug Use. This meeting will be open to the public at 8 p.m. Everyone is urged to come to hear this speaker on such an im- portant topic. On Saturday evening the Commencement Ex- ercises of Cartwright High School were held in 'the Recreation Centre, with a fine crowd in at- tendance. Mr.J.R. Musselman, Principal welcomed everyone and gave the Graduates a message.
