November 6, 1984 -- 33 A fun-filled night for young fry Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Hallowe'en night was a special event in the Scugog Point area. Many little folk in colourful costumes knocked on the doors for their treats- a night of excitement- an evening of magic and mystery- the festive celebration of Hallowe'en which is a survival of the 17th cen- tury. An Irish custom, also popular in Scotland and England. There are many myths and superstitions ahout Hallowe'en but may the custom never die- it is a fun night for the young fry! Caesarea Youth Club A very enjoyable dance was held in the Caesarea Community Centre from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, October 26 for the 11 to 15 year olds. A very good attendance for the event and chaperones for the even- ing were Wayne and Elaine Bradt. The spot dance winners were Tina Bradt and Darren Fowler. Our congratula- tions! Refreshments were available. Sounds like a great party! Best wishes for success and lots of fun this coming season. Caesarea Community Church A good congregation at Caesarea on Sunday, November 4, at 11 a.m., with Mrs. Crawford play- ing the organ. The church is growing. Local folk are attending. Rey. W.H. Crawford D.D. took his text from John, Chapter 3: 16 "God's Love Expressed To Mankind' a fine message. Robert Heayn assisted with the service and Daniel Pugh read the Scripture. Congratulations Extended Our heartiest con- gratulations to Charlie and Clara Nesbitt of Bowmanville who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday evening, November 3rd, in Tyrone Hall, with a large number of relatives and friends on hand to extend very best wishes upon reaching this milestone in their lives. Charlie and Clara grew up in the Nestleton area and we claim them as our own. A grand couple! Nestleton Presbyterian Church An average attendance at Nestleton Presbyterian on a cool, fall Sunday morning, November 4, 11 a.m. Psalm 100 was used. Scripture- I Corinthians II: 23-29. Rev. Fred Swann's theme- "Sym- bols of Sacrament" - an interesting explanation. Mrs. S. Scott was A warm welcome to all to attend next Sunday. Family Welcomed The Cliff Davis family of St. Christopher, has recently purchased the late Julian Stoch home on Scugog Point Road and took possession November 1st. We \ welcome Cliff, Chris, Scott and Carleton Davis - our new friends to this neighbourhood. On Saturday after- noon, Cliff Davis hosted a "crash' surprise party in the new home with ap- proximately sixty guests present. A most en- joyable time of fun and fellowship. Blackstock Anniversary Quite a number from Nestleton attended the Blackstock Anniversary Service held on Sunday, November 4th at 10 a.m. with a fine congregation present to hear guest preacher Rev. Dr. Jewitt Parr's message. Special music was a feature as well. Besides the Senior and Junior choirs- music was provided by David and Jerryann Hamilton. Service was withdrawn at Nestleton. The Nestleton United Church Council will meet this Wednesday evening, November 7 at 8 p.m. in the church. The Nestleton U.C.W. will meet in the church on Wednesday, November 14 at 2 p.m. (note change of date). Guest speaker- our student minister- Elaine Barber. We hope for a good attendance. A Reminder The Remembrance Day service for Cart- wright will be held on Saturday, November 10th at 10:30 a.m. in the Blackstock Recreation Centre. The guest speaker will be- Rev. Dale Davis. A nice get-together. Happy Times Very pleased to hear that Mrs. Lorne (Irene) McKee of«Nestleton, is Happy to see Dr.Dymond home after having surgery in Oshawa General Hospital. On Sunday, November 4th, Ralph and Leona Greenbank News 'The November meet- ing of the United Church Women will be held in the church this Wed. Nov. 7th at 2 p.m. '""Remembrance" will be the theme for the meeting. Helen McKean and Muriel Gibson will tell us of their trip to England and Europe. The beautiful floral arrangements brighten- ed up the church for the 88th anniversary of Greenbank United Church. Everyone was pleased to have Dr. Dymond with us again. His sermon 'Is Discip- leship Ivolvement too costly?' gave us much to consider. The choir and soloist provided us with lovely music to add to the service. It was so nice to see many families home for the service as well as a good crowd from Pine- dale and Seagrave churches. Mrs. Aleta Leask visited with her sister, Mrs. McCormack in North Bay over the weekend. Mrs. Doris Hill of the Greenbank Women's Institute presented awards to Carol Peter- son, a grade 10 student and Beth Stewart grade 12 student for their achievement in the Basic Course at the Port Perry High School Commencement on Fri- day night. Mr. and Mrs. Almer Rennie visited with Mr. and Mrs. Armour Mc- Millan on Sunday. Plan to attend the Bicentennial Celeb- rations in Greenbank Centennial Hall on Sat- urday evening Nov- ember 17th at 8 p.m. Learn of Greenbank's history through the years with slides and pictures and displays topped off with a social get to-gether and coffee. Mrs. Betty Stone and Mrs. Roberta Baird were the song leaders for the 1984 Womens Institute area Conven- tion held in Toronto's Royal York Hotel last Tues. and Wed. The theme for this event "Celebrating Together in Ontario' also "What is the Vision for our Future". The Women's Institute is needed today more than when it was organized in 1897. Mrs. Helen McKean Sadler celebrated their 48th wedding anniver- sary. Our "very best wishes' for many more to a fine couple. We cer- tainly are happy - that after selling their farm - they didn't leave the Nestleton area. They are and Mrs. Iva Phoenix also attended the con- vention as delegates.
