After a solid 10-5 win October 21 over the Lindsay Muskies, the MoJacks played host Sunday night to the Port Hope Bantams lose 6-4 On Oct. 22 the Port Perry Bantam A's travelled to Stouffville. The boys started out slow letting Stouffville get ahead 2-0. Then Port's Mike Sorley scored a beautiful goal assisted by Jamie Menzies. Stouffville scored a goal to make it 3-1. And they were gracious hosts indeed, handing the visitors an 11-7 victory at the Scugog Arena. It was a long night between the pipes for MoJack netminder Clay Shortly after that Derek Fitzgerald popp- ed in an excellent goal. Assisting this fine play was Mark Barkey. After getting so close the boys again let up. This gave Stouffville a chance to score 3 more goals making the score 6-2. Lovering as he didn't get much support from his team-mates, espec- ially when it came to clearing the Panthers off his door-step. On numerous occas- ions, Lovering would Mark Barkey and Mike Sorley scored the last 2 goals of the game. Assists went to Brad Menzies, Jamie Menzies and Brad Traves got 2. The final score was 6-4 for Stouffville. Port could have played better if they were not short-handed as much. Juveniles lose 7-6 after the curfew make a save, only to see an un-guarded Panther pounce on a rebound and put it into the net. To their credit, the MoJacks managed to keep the game close for almost two full periods, but the ceiling began to cave in late in the middle frame when the Panthers scored two quick goals at 17:07 and 17:14 to take a 7-5 lead into the dressing room. And the visitors pick- ed up early in the third period with goals at 2:09 and 3:40 for a com- manding 9-5 lead as the MoJacks began to take a lot of silly penalties. As the final period wore on, the game degener- ated into a sorry excuse for hockey with players on both sides hacking What's with that clock? by Jeff Cox On Oct. 18 Emiel's Juveniles faced Lindsay for the first league game. Emiel"s lost 74. Opening the scoring was Emiel's with two goals by Andy Sleep, the ' second assisted by Paul Lindsay then tied the score 2-2. Emiel's came back with a goal by Mark Goreski assisted by Brian Hendricks. Again Lindsay tied the game 3-3. But Emiel's didn't stop trying with a goal by Brian Hendricks assisted by Jamie Lee and Mark Goreski. Then the third period came to an end with Lindsay scoring three and one in ' the empty net. Paul Goreski played well in net. On Oct. 22 Emiel's went to Pickering to play a great game. The score ended at 76 for Pickering. Emiel's opened the scoring with a goal by Andy *'Crash" Sleep assisted by Steve Lee. Crash played a great game! The second goal was scored by Mark Goreski assisted by Jeff Cox. Emiel's ended the first 2-0. Pickering won the second period by scor- ing five goals to go ahead Emiel's 5-2. Coaches Jobb and Thomson fired up the team for the third by pulling them back in the game first with a goal by Steve "Leroy" Lee unassisted, then another by Leroy assisted by Mark Goreski, and once again by "Crash" assisted by Leroy. The last goal for Emiel's was scored by Jeff Cox assisted by Leroy. This put Emiel's ahead of Pickering 6-5. Now I'd like to mention the unfairness of the cur- few. Both teams knew the game was to end at 11:00. Well, at 11:00 Emiel's were winning 6-5 but the game went on and Pickering tied 6-6. The game still continued and Pickering scored again to win 7-6 with still 2:46 left on the time clock. Even after the game the other coach told us "We got the raw end of that deal." Paul Bateman had a lot of action in net and played a great game. On Oct. 25 Emiel"s played a game against Stouffville. The game was end to end action but Emiel's missed on a lot of chances. The team pulled off a 3-3 tie. Goals were scored by Ray Meisner unassisted, Andy Sleep assisted by Jamie Lee, and once again Andy Sleep assist- ed by Jeff Cox. Paul Goreski played well in net for the home team. * played at the Scugog Arena Sunday evening. Panther forwards took full advantage of being left unguarded on Lovering's doorstep. and slashing away at each other. Panthers took a 2-0 lead by the mid-point of the opening period, but MoJacks Jeff Johnstone took advantage of Port Hope penalties to score two quick power play goals at 13:28 and 13:46 to knot the game at 2-2. The teams traded goals before the Pan- thers scored again at 18:28 for a 4-3 lead. MoJacks played their best hockey of the game early in the second period, killing off a two man disadvantage and then scoring twice in the span of 40 seconds to take a short-lived lead for the only time in the match. Scott Wallace made a nice individual rush down the left side, bounced a shot off the goalie's mask and then watched the rebound deflect into the net off a Panther skate. Just 40 seconds later Bob Horton put the MoJacks ahead when he tipped in a Rob Nicholson shot from the point. But the lead didn't last very long as the Panther big line of Tony Wakely, Shawn Shalla and Pat Roy gave the MoJacks all kinds of trouble. MoJacks did get a couple of goals in the final period on fine individual efforts by Mike Ryan and Paul Butterworth, but there was no way the team was going to salvage even a tie out of this contest. The MoJacks were without Jeff Butter- worth and Rob Sedore, sitting out suspensions a Atoms . 4 . i >» of oO » : aes in i, ~ X ARKH By | Phraremag os 8 On Sunday Oct. 28 the Malmont Farms Atoms travelled to Darlington Arena to play an exhib- ition game against the Oshawa Little N.H.L. Major Atom Bruins. This contest appeared to be a real tight battle but the Green Machine came out on top with a 3-2 victory. In the first period Jeff Parry open- ed the scoring with assists going to Duane Empringham and Chad Garvock. Steve Laird finished the period with an unassisted goal. In the second period Jeff hosts earned last week, and early in the first period of Sunday's game, lead- ing scorer Brian "Joe"' Nicholson was suckered into a cheap fight and he was sent packing by the referee. MoJacks walmost certainly will be without the services of Bob Horton for the next two games as he went after a Panther late in the third period and Brian Stevenson likely will miss a couple o' games for a third period scuffle. The loss to Port Hope puts the MoJacks record at a game under .500 with two wins and three defeats in this young Junior C season. After the less than impressive effort against the Panthers, the MoJacks will have to re-group by the week- end as they play back- to-back games against the Lakefield Chiefs. The Chiefs have been flying early in the season and have not suffered a defeat. The MoJacks travel to Lake- field for a game Friday evening and the teams return to the Scugog Arena for a match Sunday night (Nov. 4) with face off set for 7:30. YOUTH LEAGUE Team Standings: Eagles - 14, Hawks - 12; Falcons - 10; Blue Jays - 9; Blue Birds - 9; Orioles - 6. Girls High Single: Zakeana Reid - 159. Girls High Double: Stephanie Tower - 257. Boys High Single: Jon Bolan - 193. Boys High Double: Kevin Gassien - 336. Andrews scored what finally became the win- ning goal on a fine unassisted effort. All the boys skated and passed the puck well. It looks like we're really start- ing to become a team. On Saturday Oct. 27 the Malmont Farms Atoms played a league action game at Darling- ton Arena against Bow- manville. In this game the Green Machine was caught sleeping on numerous occasions and came away on the losing side of a 5-3 hockey game. In the first period Jeff Parry scored the only Port Perry goal on an unassisted effort. In the second period Jason Cochrane scored on a nice pass from Steve Laird. In the third period Jody Logan fin- ished the Green Mach- ine scoring with assists going to Lindsay Parry and Sean McEnaney. The game may have taught the boys that they are going to have to work a little harder to stay on the winning side. On Friday Oct. 26 the Malmont Farms Atoms hosted Uxbridge in another league action game. This time coming away with a 5-3 victory. In the first period the Green Machine opened the scoring with the goal going to Jody Logan and assist to Sean Mec- Enaney. The second period belonged to Port Perry as they scored 3 unanswered goals, Brad Moase scored two un- assisted goals (good work Brad), Chad Gar- vock, his first of the year, with assists going to Jeff Parry and Duane Empringham. In the third period Jeff Parry finished the scoring with assists going to Steve Laird. The Port Perry squad skated well in this game. Special mention to the boys between the pipes, Shawn Larocque and Andrew Pereman, as they came up with a lot of nice saves. The Malmont Farms Atoms next game is Friday Nov. 2 when they travel to Cobourg.
