w-- my { | | \ hi 22 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. October 23, 1984 Two ties for Bantam B It seems like only yesterday the Bantam B's finished off last season and here we go again. The Port Perry Sportsland Bantam B's have just finished play- ing three league games. We managed two ties and one loss, which is not bad considering the size and talent that we have put together. We have a number of play- ers who are trying out rep. hockey for the first time. There experience and talent at this time is limited, but the potent- ial is definitely there. Since Punch was in Florida for the first game the only thing I can tell you is that is was a 2-2 tie with Bowmanville Minors. The second game was against our arch rivals from Uxbridge. This game also ended in a 2-2 tie. Robbie Brown notched the first goal of the game unassisted in the first period. In the second period Blair Bailey scored from Kevin Gibson and " Andrew Steele. We had our chances in this game but could not quite finish off our plays to compliment a fine rush- ing effort. Special mention must go to Ricky King, our goal Bantam A up 6-1 On Wednesday Oct. 17 Port's Goreski's Ban- tam A's played their second regular season game and chalked up a 6-1 win over Pickering Village. Jamie Menzies got things rolling late in the first period, with assists going to Jeff Oke and Mark Barkey. The second Port goal was scored by number 10, John Lally assisted by Jeff Oke. This ended the first period with Port ahead 2-0. Once the second period got rolling, the home team put number 3 on the board at 12:17 by Phil McBride, who was set up by John Lally and Warren Geer. Things were slowed up midway through the second period until 54 seconds when Jamie Menzies scored again, with Brad Menzies and Jeff Oke picking up the assists. Just 16 seconds later Jeff Oke got his fourth point of the game with the help of the Menzies duo. Before the period was over, Port Perry scored the final goal of the game with only 3 seconds left to go. Phil McBride got his second goal of the game assisted by Mike Sorley and John Lally. If any- one on the Port Perry team deserves acknow- ledgement, it is Mark Barkey. Mark had four breakaways but unfor- tunately, he was robbed by the Pickering goalie. Nice try though Mark! On Saturday Oct. 20 the Bantams played an exhibition game against Whitby and came out victorious 9-0. Port's next home game is Wed. Oct. 24 at 8:00 p.m. against our arch rivals Uxbridge. So come on out and support the team. tender, who made some excellent saves to pre- serve the tie. On Sunday Oct. 21, we went to Darlington to play the Bowmanville 11 team and came away with a 3-2 loss. The boys worked extremely well in this game but the Bowmanville goal- tender made many excellent saves. Our first goal was scored by Darren Caudle on a nice backhand after working extremely hard to get it away. The assists went to Derek Lewis and Matt Durward. Our second goal was scored about a minute later by Kevin Gibson on a deflection from a shot from the blueline by Paul (Smiley) Wylie. The other assist went to Rob Brown with a little luck we could have been the winner, but it was not to be. The Bantam II team has a lot of games left, plus tournament play which should improve the skills of some of our newer players. Under the direction of Dave Obee as coach, Pete Christie as trainer and Rob Jamieson as manager this team should mould itself into a real winner before the season ends. Novice Stars hang on for a 4-4 draw On Friday October 19 Port Novice All-Stars hosted Stouffville in an action packed league opener. The scoring began early when Stouffville tucked one in behind our goalie. Then, midway through the 1st period Port's Greg Thompson put the tying marker past the Stouff- ville goalkeeper, assist- Chesterfield Suites Love Seajs Sectionals & Mattresses -A Large Selection - McKEEN FURNITURE 524 Simcoe SL. $., Oshawa 1255181 WITH OIL UNDERCOATING ... ed by. Dave Bourgeois put Port's go ahead goal in the top corner assisted by a pass from Kenton LeFort. The second period started as a repeat of the first with Stouffville scoring again. At the 4:52 mark Port's Scott Heasman broke away alone and rocketed one past the Stouffville goalie. Then less than a minute later Clay Scott stole the puck, passed it to Scott Heasman who then put it away for his second marker of the night. With only a minute Have Your Car Oiled! With the sides equal and nearly 4 minutes re- maining the fans enjoy- ed well-played hockey with both teams having good goal opportunities.
