24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. October 16, 1984 Competition keen in local broomball loop Three weeks ago the Port Perry Broomball Association 1984-85 sea- son got underway. It again is comprised of 6 teams with only one major change and that being C&B Livestock now sponsored by Gor- eski's. To date the surprising team of the loop is Oddfellows who sport a 2 and 1 record losing to Goreski's this past Sunday by a 10 score. Utica -5 Brian's- Halfway through the first period Marcel Martin aided Murray Down in getting Utica started. They didn't get the second one until five minutes after when Bill Down got his first of itchell. Down again ted shortly after 'final frame started 5 brother Murray assisted on this score. Martin got his second assist of the game as he aided Bill Down in his hat trick effort. The scoring was finished as Down got his fourth point in setting up brother Murray. Emmerson's - 1 Beacock's - 1 Both of these two teams came into this game looking for their first points of the sea- son and came away with the split. With just 1:36 to play Dave Dalton fed Ron Wagg to give Gord Lewis -5 Tripp Real Estate - 0 In the first Atom House League action this season, Gord Lewis Motors shut out Tripp Real Estate 5-0. Lewis scored 4 in the first period, and added a final marker in the third. Scoring for Lewis were Jeff Kemp with two, and Robin Prentice, Adam John- ston and Andrew Wilson with singles. Wilson also picked up two assists, with Derek Buller notching up three assists and Craig Mitchell with a single. Mike Payne recorded the shut out. Scugog Lumber - 4 Swamp Garage - 1 Game two saw Scugog Lumber defeating Swamp Garage 4-1. After a scoreless first period, Kevin Ellis scored for the lumber- men, assisted by Jeff Card. Scugog netted three more in the third period, with Dave Pash- ley scoring twice and a single going to Todd Smart, Jeff Card and Ian McClelland picked up one assist each. The lone marker for Swamp Garage was scored by Mike Tripp unassisted. Don Forder Insurance insurance - 4 U.AW.-4 The final matchup of the day resulted in a 4-4 drew between Don Forder Insurance and U.A.W. Steven Slade put U.A.W. on the board after 57 seconds had gone by in the first period. Forder came back with Ross Stainton scoring from Mike Pugh. U.A.W. came right back, as Bill Sandiford netted his first marker of the season. Only one goal was scored in the second period, and that by Robbie Roneano, to even the score at 2. Each team scored twice in the final period. For U.A.W. Bill Sandiford two for his hat trick and for Don Forder, Ross Stainton and Michael Staniland. Assists were picked up by Staniland, Stainton, Robin Brown, Brendon Agnew and Scott Foster. PEE WEE Well, summers over and its back to early Saturday mornings and cold arenas. Yes, hockey season is back and over 40 Pee Wees hit the ice Saturday morning to play their first league game. Wes Lane -3 Scala Bros. - 1 In Saturdays 1st game, Wes Lane defeat- Beacock"s the tie. Goreski's - 1 Oddfellows - 0 These two teams were battling it out to see who Minor Hockey ~ edScala3tolona2goal performance by Mark Shephard with a single going to John Andrews. Gord Ireland picked up 2 assists. Scoring the lone goal for Scala was Carl Payne with an assist going to John Collins. W.Frank-7 Lions Club -3 In the 2nd game Lions Club broke the ice by scoring the 1st goal, only to have the Frank boys come back and score 5 unanswered goals. Liens just seem to overcome the 4 goal lead but they gave it a stayed with Utica on top of the standings and Goreski's prevailed. As in the second game of the day, the first period of this game went score- good shot with each team trading the last four goals. Mike Butt held the hot stick for Frank as he had 4 goals and 1 assist. Paul Kett scored twice and added an assist and Vince Criscione added a goal and an assist to the winning cause. Scoring for the Lions was Kevin Puckrin with a goal and assist with singles going to Greg Kyle and Herb Hatch. Chris McGill picked up an assist. BANTAM by Don Hurst The Bantam House League got its season Sports news at PPHS less also. But it took only 38 seconds for Goreski's to get the only one they would need as Tom Carroll connected underway this year with IGA winning 74 over Consumers Gas, while Emmerson Insurance picked up a 6-3 victory over the Cochrane Trotters. Scott Feasby with two goals and an assist led the way for Emmer- son's. Davey Head, Dale Leask, Jamie Mabley and Mike Feasby all added singles. While Jeff Beddome, Dale Leask, Duane Leask an Mike Feasby, all added assists each. John Rodway with two goals and an assist, Steve Diceman added Quick off the mark by Amy Ware Practically two months of school has passed, and the Rebel Athletes are well on their way to great seasons in soccer, field hockey, girls basket- ball, guys volleyball and cross country. The Senior soccer team hosted Harwood Secondary School for a great match. Port Perry was victorious with a score of 4-2. Goal scorers were Don Pettit - 3 goals; Barrie Will- inergton - 1 goal. Don was voted player of the game. Dunbarton was the next visitor at Port Perry High School. This was one of the best games played by both teams. Unfortunately, Dunbarton scored with 3 minutes left in the game, to down the Rebels 1-0. Player of the game was Colin Stone. Port Perry then travell- ed to Anderson Coleg- iate to battle with a hot raiders team, Port Perry came up on the losing end. The score 3-0. Tom Fowler was player of the game. Pickering Trojans were in town last week to tackle PPHS. Port suffered from a bad game and were beat 5-1. (Nice try). Rebel Field Hockey The girls field hockey team travelled to Scar- borough for their first tournie of the season. They placed 2nd in their YOUTH LEAGUE Team Standings: Eagles - 8, Blue Jays - 6. Blue Birds - 5; Hawks -5; Orioles - 4; Falcons - 2. Girls High Single: Lisa Steinmuller; Cheryl Moore - 142. Girls High Double: Lisa Steinmuller - 282. Boys High Single: Graham Sullivan - 183. Boys High Double: Graham Sullivan - 293. pool with a record of 2 wins and 2 losses. The Rebel squad travelled to O'Neil Collegiate to tackle the Redmen and give their rookie goalie a good workover. Unfor- tunately O'Neill gave our goalie a work over we didn't expect. final score was 5-1 in favour of O'Neill. (We'll get them at LOSSA). Their next challenge was the Eastdale Bullies but again were defeated 1-0 late in the second half. Dunbarton Spartons came to town and Port beat them handedly 3-0. Goal scorers were (killer) Carole Ann Elliot with 2 and Ldtira Dobson - 1. Amy Ware and Kim Norton earned the shut out. Rebel Basketball The midget, junior and senior basketball teams travelled to Cart- wright for their season opener. All three teams played well and 2 out of 3 teams were victorious. All three teams then travelled to Central Collegiate and Juniors and Midgets were successful. Donevan Blue Devils were the next challenge but only the seniors could manage a win. (Nice try). Good luck against O'Neill on Monday. Rebel Volleyball The Senior guys Volleyball team travell- ed to Anderson Coll- egiate for their first tournie. The team start- ed slow against Bow- manville and Anderson but managed to place 2nd in their pool and advanced to the semi- final against G.L. Roberts. Port played the best game of the tournament but lost a heart breaking game of a score 16-14. (We'll get them at LOSSA) Good luck Wednesday at LOSSA West. That's all for now. Mike Fitze and Neil Mark each had an assist. For Consumers Gas, four boys counted one goal each: Jason Bertrand, Shawn Phillips, Paul Turner and Darryl Bradt.
