16 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- October 16, 1984 It was a sad, yet busy day for Leona and Ralph Sadler (seen here with their prize Hackney mare, Star) Saturday, when the couple auctioned off nearly all their household and barn belongings from a farm that has been in the family for four genera- tions. See story for details. What with all the folks who showed up at the Sadler auction last Saturday, extra facilities had to be rigged up but even with these precautions there were line-ups. More than 200 bargain seekers swarm- ed the Sadler farm north of Nestlefon last Saturday, to gawk at Ralph Sadler's nC Sad day for the Sadlers, | - It was a sad day for Ralph and Leona Sadler. \ * After being in the family for four gener- ations, the Sadler farm, all 90 acres of it just north of Nestleton, was sold. And on Saturday, crowds flocked to the homestead to bid on household contents, ccven fine hackney horses and one of Ont- ario's most prestigious buggy collections. The buggies, some two-wheeled, others with four, fringed, or with a convertible top, were displayed across the lawn near the barn- yard. While some were obviously in various states of disrepair, others, including three Queen Phaetons more than a century old and worth some $3,000 each, were in mint condition. The Sadlers will be moving to their daughter's house, which is also in the Nestleton area. "It is sad," the Sadlers' other daughter, Gloria Scott, admits. "But we have to look at it from the standpoint that it's going to be good for mom and dad. It's a retirement move, really." > rl 1 (dh - Above, little Lara MacKinnon, who 22, waits somewhat impatiently for her turn. prestigious buggy collection and fo chat with neighbours and friends ---- as these two gentlemen did. auction ends a tradition & "Gee, | don't know ....
