18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, Sept. 18, 1984 For Dr. Eva Mannen, natural is the only way to go. The Port Perry chiro- practor-naturopath practises what she preaches, extolling the virtues of carrot juice and herbal tea while she sips on rose hips. She looks radiantly healthy, blonde hair shining under the florescent lights, her trim figure tucked into a doctor's smock. - "I was raised with all of this. It's nothing foreign, it's all a part of me", she says, sitting on the edge of a patient couch in her Water Street office. 'I was brought up with carrot juice, herbs and poul- tices. As soon as there was a little tickle in my throat I learned to look after it". Her philosophies, in- stilled by European parents who raised their - daughter in the Ux- bridge-Udora area, stayed with her through- out many years of education and resulted in chiropractic and: naturopath degrees. What she does is look at each patient as a whole person, and at the body as a whole. If a person comes to her with, say, a kidney complaint, she looks at the condition of the patient's entire body, not just at the kidneys. Her philosophy is if the entire body is in good condition, disease has a poor chance of grabbing hold. If the body's in poor condition overall, disease can have a field day. ~ So she treats the entire body. Not just one area. And always with natural medicine. "It's a distinct healing art", she explains. "An MIC HK HK MK J . Once she figures out what's wrong with a patient, an entire field of treatment opens up to her including exercise, electro-theraphy, nutri- tion and diet counsell- ing, vitamins, herbal teas, chiropractic ther- apy and acupuncture. Her patients often come to her when they haven't had the success they want with "regular doctors". "Some are familiar with herbs and chiro- practors. They have a particular problem and they know they want to go the natural route to solve it,"' she says. "Then there are those who are referred to me by a friend. Then there are chronic situations, where a patient has been the medical route. Whatever the problem, I look at the whole indivi- dual, find out what's going on with the whole individual and then treat the whole individ- : 'ual'. She's had the most success with respira- tory, digestive, urinary, structural (muscles and joints) and circulatory problems.
