Heron The Horticulture Show of Annuals was lovely on Aug. 22nd and there was a good show- ing of vegetables. Miss Nancy Lee Colibaba of the Royal Botanical Gardens, Hamilton, showed some very lovely slides of birds you would find in your gardens also plants you would plant to attract the birds. The next meeting will be a plant auction on Sept. 26th. This always proves to be a fun night and we are asked to take slips or plants to sell. Congratulations to Miss Janice Parrott whose picture appeared in last week's Port Perry Star. She has graduated from Sir San- ford Fleming College with a Nursing Degree. Janice was born at Ashburn and lived here with her family, Sheilla and Grant Parrott and brother, Lyle until they moved to Wick. We wish Janice all the best in her Nursing position at Temiskam- ing Hospital, New Lisk- ard Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daw were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Doug Bell of Huntsville on Monday of last week. Visitors with the Herons last Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Robert McAndless, Michael, and Ariana of Ottawa. Mr. and Mrs. W. McAndless, Karen and Linda of Don Mills and Mr. Bruce Davis of Toronto. Gardner visited recent- ly with relatives in Guelph. Little Miss Krista Noonan of Oshawa visit- ed with her grandpar- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ingleton and Stephen for a few days recently. It was good to see Mrs. Ruby Bryant back at church on Sunday morning. Ruby has been visiting her daughter Muriel and her husband and grandson in British Columbia this summer. Arnold Ashton sang a beautiful solo called "Each Step I Take" and accompanied himself at the organ. Rev. McEntyre's message was titled '"Crowds, where each one counts" taken from St. John's gospel. The ushers for the month are Joan and Theo Knight. The Ashburn group of the WMS will meet on Wed. night (tonight) at the home of Florence Ashton. New members are very welcome. Loyalists in Whitby The United Empire Loyalists of Canada will meet in the auditorium of the Whitby Public Library on Thursday, September 13 at 7:00 p.m. Theme will be the Spiritual Values of Pioneering United Empire Loyalists in Ontario - on a 3 screen six projector set with full stereo sound system (Creative Sound and Light Incorporated). Election of Officers - Charles Humber, co- editor of the Bicenten- nial publication, 'Loyal She Remains' will be present to guide us in our application for a local charter. "A super dinner," proclaimed Lynda Morrow between mouthfuls at the seventh annual Beef Buffet held at the Scugog Arena Saturday evening. The arena was packed to the rafters with diners who knew a tasty bar-goon when they spotted one, including Lynda and her husband Pat of Port Perry.
