Among those present at the head table was Durham-Northumberland Liberal candidate Darce Camp- bell, seen here with the Prime Minister. Others at the table were Gary Herrema of Ontario Riding and Terry Kelly of Oshawa Riding. '"This election is about trust. Canadians must be able to trust their government, to trust that the government they elect will do what they say. He then launched into an attack on Conser- vative leader Brian Mulroney and his promises for social pro- grams made during the women's debate. Mr. Turner said the PC leader would have to welsh on his promises, waste taxes or cut into the social problems if he were elected. He accused Mr. Mul- roney of being a "let's preténd liberal'"' and said "I don't think that anybody's going to believe him'. Also appearing with Mr. Turner was Ed Lumley, industry and trade minister, who talked about the auto industry and called for more interaction between government and unions. The Prime Minister echoed Mr. Lumley's statements, saying 'I'm Samm ------ ¥ i | Ai any glad that Ed Lumley gave proper credit to the unions in this country', and adding "'I don't care what political viewpoints they espouse'. About young people and jobs, Mr. Turner said, 'I'm concerned about them. I care about them. I've returned to public life so I can help them'. Durham-Northumber- land candidate Darce Campbell was happy about the PM's per- formance in Oshawa and during the debate, and said it will no doubt help his own campaign. Still, Mr. Campbell is insistent on running what he calls a "person- al campaign', emphasis on the candi- date instead of the leader. "Most of the people out there aren't sure of of the leaders. 'We're heading back in the direction of personal ridings, I think, and ours is a highly personal campaign. The 53 year old real estate broker calls him- self a "native son" of the riding, having grown up and worked in the Cobourg-Port Hope area for most of his life.
