TP BT I Nes PE a, kh a TN | § ] d Gas jockey blues (From page 8) hard work. When you've done your best and you come away dead on your feet (as I did after working at Taylor's), you get this incredible feeling of satisfaction. By George, I hustled the day. Zipping from one car to the next, _ spinning off gas caps, filling up tanks so the price comes up an even dollar ( so I can say that's ten bucks, please, instead of $9.98), dishing out change, dashing off charge cards, wiping windshields and check- ing oil. And all this with a line-up of cars that would intimidate even the most seasoned gas jockey. Let me tell you, if I worked at a job like that five days a week I'd be skinny as"an oil dipstick. Honestly, have you ever seen a fat gas Jockey? No. They work too hard. Through rain and snow and heat of day they fill'er up while customers sit in their cozy cars, oblivious to what's going on around them. You've got to give these guys credit. They don't get paid much and they work their buns off. And hardly anybody tips them, unless it's for Christmas or some- thing. But in spite of every- thing, I loved my day at Taylor's Gulf. I loved: the T-shirt and hat they gave me (thanks guys!) and I really appreciate the way everybody was so eager to help me out. It was especially nice of them not to yell at me every time I overflowed someone's gas tank. And you gotta know, that was more often than you think. ---- Obituary ---- Milton Earl Heayn After three years of illness, on July 19th, Left to mourn his loss, are his sister Lila, Murray, Brian, Geogory and Catherine.
