10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. August 14, 1984 Rhino man has plans for Sc (From page 1) only be allowed on Yonge Street, all of downtown Calgary and parts of Vancouver, including Quadra which just hap- pens to be the riding where Prime Minister John Turner is trying to get elected. As for local issues in this riding, Mr. Flynn says he would like to see young people hired to harvest the weeds in Lake Scugog, process them into health foods and ship them all gver the country. Mr. Flynn is originally from Montreal. He has a degree in Canadian Studies from Trent University and says the last job he held was managing a health food store in Peterborough. He wears a beard and shoulder length hair. He showed up for an in- 'terview at the Star office Monday morning with his nine month old son Colin in tow, and refer- red to him as 'my bagman, the fun- .draiser". When asked why he is running for Parliament without a hope of winn- ing and whether he con- siders this an affront or insult to the democratic system, he replied in all seriousness, no. "THIS ELECTION IS ABOUT JOBS" "It is about creating new jobs, and just as important, saving existing jobs. If you send me to Ottawa as your M.P., I'll fight for jobs." DARCE CAMPBELL Caring & Capable! Authorized by C.B. Lynch, Official Agent for Darce Campbell. '"There has to be some choice between the clone and the clown. We are trying to be a total alter- native to put a few issues in front of the people," he said. He was once active politically for the mainstream parties and was turned off by them. "If they (the parties) were not doing so badly in this country, there would be no room for the Rhinos," he says. Actually, the Rhinos, despite all the jokes and nonsensical campaign, have placed second behind the Liberals in two ridings in Montreal, and finished ahead of the NDP in seven ridings in Quebec. Mr. Flynn says that if there was proportional representation in Canada, there could very well be a Rhino MP right now. But he says that if the party ever became suc- cessful at the polls, it would be the end of the Rhinos. "If 1 was elected, I would go to Ottawa, make one speech, insult the Speaker of the House, return home and tell them where to mail my pay-cheques," he said with a grin. He's running his cam- paign on about $18 (the $200 deposit took a big chunk out of the war chest) plans to do a little main-streeting but no door-knocking and will throw a giant victory parade and dance in Peterborough on August 31. "Our polls tell us we are so sure of victory we don't have to wait for election day to celebrate,' he says. He admits the Rhinos have no answers to the serious problems in Canada, but says the other parties don't have the answers, either. The main point, he says, is that any vote for a Rhino is essentially a protest vote against the same old crowd. "How can Brian Mulroney say he can run a bankrupt country with a $30 billion deficit when he couldn't run a com- eating cake and pany in Quebec that was making money?" he asks. Mr. Flynn says the Rhinos with hind- We can hardly believe it! Summer playground is finished already! The past six weeks have just flown by! To celebrate our last week of playground we travelled to Canada's Wonderland and enjoyed a fun-filled day of rides and shows. Our last day of playground was spent playing party games, ice cream, and having wet sponge fights. Everyone really enjoyed them- selves, especially Maureen and I as we found ourselves soaked to the bone by the time that the water fight en- ded. We have yet to figure out why the kids didn't look very wet! Maureen and I would like to thank all of the parents for their assistance this summer. A special thanks to ugog quarters in Montreal are planning a major news conference this Thurs- day to announce their full campaign strategy. That's all folks! Donna Shanley for ac- companying our playground to Won- derland. Ce Well, it's all over for another summer. The balls and bats are piled in a corner, the paper and scissors are stored in boxes in the dark regions of someone's basement, and the last echo of children's laughter rings through the Prince Albert Hall as the door is closed and locked for the last time until next year.
