Excellent weather smiles on auction Scugog Island News by Mrs. Earl Reader Saturday's Institute Auction was blessed with good weather and very good attendance, perhaps smaller than . formerly on account of numerous yard sales. John Pearce and friend did the auctioning as Murray Jackson of former years was attending a wedding. Barbara Ross was very lucky when it came time for the draw on the afghan made by Mrs. Russell Pogue. We thank all those who donated items and help- ed in various ways. Mrs. Florence Fralick and Mrs. Elsie Pogue from the foot of the Island decided last week to take a trip to B.C. to see immediate family and grandchildren. But unfortunately Elsie's husband, Russell, a long time resident farmer at the Foot became ill and Elsie was called home. We are sorry to say by Saturday, his tired heart gave up. We extend our sympathy to his bereaved family. At the Island United Church on Sunday it was noted that there were several guests from cottages, former adherents and a larger number of children who were looking forward to their illustrated story "THE 1984 SEASON through Rev. Robin- son's puppet and his ventriloquism and then their retirement to the S.S. area for craft to illustrate Bible lessons. We appreciate the great amount of work put into the Bulletin which can be further used as a reference and study throughout the week. As time progresses, we realize the fulfilling job by the Pastoral Relations Committee. The people are also showing appreciation by - their full support and interest. Though the Island UCW"s are resting and holidaying thro' the summer that ambitious group of young women in the "Friendship" UCW are preparing for an early start in the Fall, Sept. 1 when they will hold another sale of baked goods, crafts and White Elephant. Their specialty is apple, blue- berry, cherry -or rasp- berry pies at $3.00 each and must be ordered before August 24 by calling 985-3490 or 7664 or 3470. Last year the demand was quite over- whelming. So order early to help them in their planning. August 24 really isn't far away.
