Flames ignite the Raiders in fast ball hockey action by Robert Tpbin Monday July 16th saw good ball hockey action when the Flames defeated the Raiders 4-2. Bantams take the trophy at Cobourg annual meet by Lee Wilbur On Saturday, July 21, the Port Perry Lions Club Bantams travelled to Cobourg to play in their annual tourna- ment. In their first game they played North York in which Port came out on top by a score of 6-5. Lee Wilbur started the game with Dave Bur- nett coming in for the 6th inning to get the win for the Lions. Their second game proved to be a little more exciting. The Lions faced King- ston Township for the third time this year. Port had no bats going for them and Kingston had taken a 2-0 lead, not until the top of the 7th inning did Port's bats Roadhouse REEVE connect when Greg Warriner led off with a double then Lee Wilbur "hit a double with 2 men on. Dave Burnett hit a double and brought in 2 runs. Darren Fulford brought in Langille who was running for Burnett. Dan Rankin walked and then Chris Cookman pulled a double to bring 2 more runs. Port won this by a score of 5-2. Dave Burnett pitched an awe- some game despite some of the umpire's calls. He collected 12 strikeouts. This put Port into the championship game where they faced Napanee. Lee Wilbur started the game and then Dave Burnett came in and collected the save as they combined for 7 strikeouts. Port emerged as victors defeating Napanee 3-0. Hits in these 3 games were: Dave Burnett with a triple, 2 doubles, 2 . singles; Steve Durham, a home run, 2 singles; Chris Cookman 2 doubles and a single; Greg Warriner a double and a single; Lee Wilbur a double and a single and Chris Menzies 2 singles.
