But under questioning by Assistant Crown Attorney Doug Brown, Barrett said her memory of events that evening was "hazy". She said she could not recall exactly when De- Nyke had arrived and left her house or how much he had drunk there. She said he appeared able to drive when he left before the accident. In summing up, Brown said the facts 'scream criminal negli- gence". He said any driver exercising normal care and caution would have noticed a Road Closed sign at the corner of Brock and Toronto Sts., where DeNyke"s car entered the part used earlier for a street dance. Failing that, Brown said, the driver should have noticed a tractor trailer straddling the roadway about 90 metres away at the "intersection of Brock and Church Sts. The street dance chairman said he frant- ically tried to stop the car just before it slammed into the chaise lounge and became lodged against the trail- er's dolly wheels. Band members, including drummer Ken Graham, Lois' husband, were finishing unload- ing their equipment from the semi-trailer, Voltage test all set for next Tuesday Ontario Hydro will conduct the second of its 1984 voltage reduction tests on Tuesday, July 31. Betweeen 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., and again from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., voltage on the Ontario electrical grid will be reduced by 5 per cent. For most customers, the effect of these two brief reductions will be imperceptible. But it will be signifi- cant for Hydro. The data collected on the over-all load reduction resulting from a system voltage reduction of 5 per cent will help Hydro locate and resolve po- tential operating or cus- tomer problems. Testing the power dis- tribution grid helps ensure that in the event of a generation emerg- ency--such as the break- down of a large generat- ing unit--there will be no power interruptions. A 5 per cent voltage reduction, distributed over the Hydro system, is equivalent to more Fronts ... $1.45 Ib. CUT, WRAPPED, FROZEN & DELIVERED (416) 725-4245 RE I I I KILLING BEEF .. (Juego « testimony showed. Dempster said he had removed barricades blocking the street com- pletely( so a tractor could come in to remove the semi-trailer. Road Closed Defence lawyer Gary reserved McNeely argued that a Road Closed sign does not necessarily mean a road is closed. He said that type of sign usually means a roadway is closed to through traffic only and that drivers may pass it while using an approp- riate degree of caution. McNeely said the crown's evidence didn't congtitute '"'wanton and rec disregard for the safety of others' necessary for a criminal negligence conviction.
