For starters, coming up is the "Western Weekend Parade" which our playground is lucky enough to be part of. This year Port Perry Playgrounds theme for the Parade is 'Children around the World". Each child will be dressed up in a costume relating to the different nationalities; such as Mexico, Holland, China ~ and many others. Our Playground also plans to start a fund raiser on the 9th which will be a cake raffle. I bet your wondering what kind of cake it is that we're raffling off, Right? Well, it just so happens to be delicious , mouthwatering 'Black Forest Cake". Getting back to a more tame subject, the playground has done great this week with our theme being "Friend- ship Week'. It was great to see all the children meeting their new friends and for us to learn almost all of their names. i» Yes, it was a great first week at Port Perry Playground and we hope to make the next five just as wonderful. In epgide episode one - the week started out with few in number but it was an action packed, fun filled week of laughs, crafts and songs. This was Friendship Week. Everyone got to know one another and developed friendships. We included many arts and crafts (peanut people, pine cone owls and paintings...), also exercising to M.J.'s 'Beat It'! The swimm- ing at Birdseye Pool on Wednesday was enjoyed by the group and the puppet show performed by three ladies was very exciting. Friday was the day we laid back, ate popcorn and watched GIFT CERTIFICATES to the first 25 people entering Crandell"s after 9 p.m. who are wearing Western Hats. Once again we're off to a great start with a fun-filled week. On Tuesday there was a puppet show, on Thurs- day, swimming and on Friday films. On Wed- nesday, we began sell- ing cake draw tickets for the draw which will be held on Friday. Proceeds from the fund- raiser will go toward our trip to Canada's Wonderland. On Friday after the hot dog sale we also had a special visit- or from the Muppets; Sweetums (A big thank you goes out to Dean Stone for his help). Stay tuned next week with more news from Kathleen. BLACKSTOCK PLAYGROUND by Carol Lewerentz Yes, for the summer of 1984 Blackstock Play- ground is in full swing once again. With a busload of kids register- ing on Tuesday, July 3, we managed to acquaint the children with the program and set goals for the end of the summer. Last week being Friendship Week proved to be most enjoy- able. The kids designed friendship pins, traded them with friends and then wore them on their shoes. Thursday allow- ed us all to become friendly with dogs... hot dogs that is. For ty weinerswieners were cooked, bunned and laced with garnishes then devoured by thirty smiling mouths. Friday our first film day proved to be a success thanks to our co-ordinator Kathy Irvine and thirty bowls of popcorn. Next week is holiday week and our regulars such as swimming, hot dog sale, films and the puppet show will be featured along with some new zany crafts of "84. Our deepest regrets to Mrs. Adams for Nathan's sudden purple appearance ...it will always wash out. GREENBANK by Sheila Cannon, Michelle McCabe and Heather Locke And we're off! Green- bank playground has finally arrived! This has been a busy week at playground. We have done almost everything from singing, playing games, doing crafts, L watching a live puppet show and on Thursday we will be watching movies (popcorn will be sold for 10 cents). We have a few events which we will be doing regularly. Monday afternoons we will be going swimming at Birdseye Pool (provid- ing we have drivers), Tuesday mornings we will be watching a puppet show, Thursday afternoons we will be watching movies and everyday we will be doing exercises! Greenbank residences beware! On Friday we are having dress up day - so if you see a few lions walking around don't be alarmed -- it'll just be the kids from play- ground! On Wednesday July 11, we will be going on a bottle drive - all donations will be great- ly appreciated! We hope the children have a great, fun and safe summer! Visit...
