Polka Dot Door "Polka Dot Door Live', adapted from TV Ontario's highly success- ful children's television series, will be appearing in Port Perry on Friday, July 13 at 3:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce Western Days activities. The show will take place on Queen Street, on the stage in front of the Post Office. In case of rain the performance will be held in the Port Perry High School auditorium at 3:00 P.M. As one of North Ameri- ca's oldest and most successful children's television shows, Polka - Dot Door continues to hold the attention of a very large and deman- ding audience. Since it was first broadcoast in 1971, hundreds of thousands of youngsters have entered the world of imagination and ad- - venture through the Polka Dot Door. The philosophy behind the show is simple: children learn through play. The show encourages curiosity, creativity and Live comes to Western Days imagination. It stimulates an interest in learning, with its emotional, intellectual and social appeal. It ex- tends language development and provides new experien- ces that children might not normally have at home. Above all, Polka Dot Door encourages children to be active participants rather than passive spectators. This summer, young people throughout On- tario will get a chance to see a brand new, bilingual show featuring the four familiar Toys (Humpty, Dumpty, Marigold and Bear), plus a new character, Minou; and, of course, everybody's favourite Polkaroo. The show focuses on a variety of Bicentennial themes contained in the Showcase and is designed to encourage interest in Ontario's heritage, culture and achievements. Polka - Dot Door Live promises to be a highlight of the Western Days celebrations in Port Perry. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 26, 1984 3 Council says no road for now (From page 1) the linking road was unanimous. However, council did agree to enter into an agreement with a land- owner whereby the Township would have the right to build. the road at some time in the future, if the situation changes. At a council meeting two weeks ago, a dele- gation of some 40 resid- ents of Sunrise and | Saturday, lune Aldred's Beach told councillors they simply did not want a road constructed that would link the two beaches. Spokesman Jim Love told that meeting the residents fear a linking road would lead to increased traffic and speeding, and would disrupt the peace and quiet people were look ing for when they bought their properties on Sunrise Beach. Members of council at that time felt that a linking road would im- prove access for service and emergency vehicles like snow plows, sand- ers, ambulances and fire trucks. At present, the only access from the main Island road to Sunrise Beach is via the 11 Concession Road. Chemicals for weeds (From page 1) colm and Harvey Gra- ham said the limited spraying is enough this year as it would allow the Township to monitor just how effective a spraying program is. The chemicals kill the weeds within a short period of time, but it will mean that the public bathing beach at Port Perry will have to be closed for about 48 hours after the spraying.
