VENDORS WANTED. 324-2783 Lindsay | Of come this weekend Jy 31 Reading and writing classes for adults The Durham Board of Education will, for the first time hold daytime Adult Literacy classes this summer in Oshawa. This intensive course is designed for those who are unable to read or write or who need assistance to improve their skills in these sub- jects. The aim, for those who need it, is to upgrade students to the grade 8 level in language arts (reading, writing, gram- mar etc.) and mathematics. New students will be tested as to their abilities and put in the appropriate level: basic, intermediate or advanced. Classes will be held each Tuesday, Wednes- day and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon beginning July 3rd and ending August 9th at Adelaide McLaughlin Public School, 630 Stevenson Road N., Oshawa. A special feature of the program is the availability of babysit- ting for children two years or older. While there is no charge for the course, the babysitting charge will be $1.00 per day for each child to a maximum of $6.00 per week for each family. Those interested in enrolling in this summer course, or for more infor- mation, call 576-4600, ex- tension 204. Students who have at- tended night school classes are especially en- couraged to enrol. The summer session will given them an opportuni- ty to consolidate their prior work and begin new instruction. Library gears up for a busy summer Summer vacation is about to begin and so are the special activities at the Library for child- ren of all ages. Registration is being accepted now for these programs. Books and Barefeet, a program every Wednesday of films and crafts, child- ren 4 to 6 years will meet in the mornings at 10:30 and ages 7 to 11 in the afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Books and Bytes is the theme for the read- ing club this summer. Books will be read to Ladies Hospital Auxiliary meets Pot luck lunch held in new wing On Monday June 18th the Port Perry Comm- unity Hospital Ladies Auxiliary held a delic- ious pot luck luncheon in the new wing of the hospital. We were pleased to have Mrs. Joy Hull, Chairlady of the Board of Govenors, Mrs. Gail Stewart, Secretary for the Hospital Adminis- trator, Mr. D. Brown, also our new physio- therapist Mrs. Lena Demmers and several volunteers along with our own members pre- sent. President Joyce Taylor opened our bus- iness portion of the meeting by all repeating the Auxiliary prayer in unison. Reports were given by the different officers. In the absence of Bonnie Gerrow, Camille reported 1 girl, 5 boys arrived at hospital since our last meeting. The Auxiliary thanks the Seagrave United Church ladies for the lovely layette given to the Auxiliary. Thelma McCreight was pleased to announce she has now 40 volunteers working on the floor. We are re minded of the Western Days coming up in July and ladies do not forget we are selling tickets on a pig cut up and wrapped. The draw being made on July 14. Also pay what you pull tickets, we hope to see you ladies out there with these tickets on those Seniors Citizens crown royalty by Marion King On June 13, we opened our meeting with the singing of O Canada, followed by one min- ute's silence, in memory of Howard McMillan, one of our valued members and choir member. Bill Harper then sang "Let There Be Peace on Earth' and dedicated it to his long-time friend Dr. Dymond. After the various re- ports, business, travel etc., we closed this part of the meeting with the Mizpah Benediction. We then had our coronation of our King and Queen. Charlie Clarke and Marjory Whipper crowned Joe and Rachel Forsythe, as our new King and Queen. Edna Beckett provided suitable music days. The Tuck Shop is being staffed by the Auxiliary ladies for the month of July and August, so please try and remember the days you have promised to work. Other discussions for the occasion. Our guest speaker, Dr. Dymond, then spoke to us in his usual jovial manner and his speech was enjoyed by every- one Also it was a pleasure to have his wife, Jeanne, with us.
