Legion arms hot With the combined two-hit pitching of Lawrie Williams and John Annis Port Perry Legion shut-out Lindsay Merchants 4-0. Port scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th inning with timely hitt- ing and base running. Lawrie Williams aid- ed his own cause of driving in Dave Dickson who had doubled earlier to force the 1-0 lead. In the 3rd inning Rick Evans doubled to right field, but was out when Jay Williams hit into a fielder's choice. Bob Evans got on when the 2nd baseman baubled the ball and hot-hitting Ron Redman then drove in Williams with a sharp single to left field. In the 5th, Rick Evans again doubled and was batted in by Bob Evans. In the 8th inning Port salted the game away when Jay Williams got on via a walk, moved to second on Ron Redman's walk, made third base on a ground out and scored on a passed ball. Lindsay never threat- ened the Legion's com- bined pitching only allowed 4 runners while striking out 13. This brings the team's league record to 1-1, good enough for 2nd place behind Oshawa Teddy's (4-0). Next league game is Wed- nesday night at 8:30 against the new entry Whitby Legion.
