Mr. Don Genge, co-editor of the Circuit Rider in the Observer, and former director at Camp Quin-Mo-Lac gave a dynamic message on Celebrate Children. The Primary Children sang His Banner Over Me. During offering, the Junior and Intermediate Classes sang The Rain- bow Connection. S.S. Superintendent Ruby Van Camp expressed her appreciation for all the assistance she had received. She also an- nounced the Family Pic- nic to be held next Sun- day, June 3, at Cart- wright Park, Caesarea at 2 p.m. After prayer by Pete Reid, the hymn Jesus Loves Me was sung bringing a fine ser- vice to a close. Two groups of Guides and Pathfinders spent the weekend camping at Emily Park. They sur- vived an intense thunderstorm and high winds in typical Girl Guide Fashion. The Cartwright Rangers hosted a fashion show on Wednesday evening in the C.E. Room of the United Church. The girls modelled many different Chandelle Fashions dur- ing the evening. They also held a penny draw and lucky draws. Lunch concluded the evening. Congratulations to Shawn Hoskin who was the representative from Cartwright Central Public School at the Na- tional Safety Patrol week spent in Ottawa. He spent from Wednesday to Saturday in Ottawa tour- ing the many places of interest in our Capital with Safety Patrollers from all across Canada. On Saturday morning Mrs. Norma Van Camp and daughters Valerie and Marie hosted a bridal shower in honour of bride-to-be Lois Van Camp. A delightful mor- ning was spent with Lois opening her beautiful gifts, a social time along with a tasty lunch. Mrs. Sandy Dowson along with friend from Sandy Cove Acres visited friends and relatives in the area. The two ladies were Sunday evening dinner guests of Catherine and Roy Cor- den and girls. The Lions Club held a successful Flea Market on Saturday and Sunday in the Arena. There were Craft and Bake Tables along with the regular items tound at Flea Markets. The Lions would like to thank those who helped to make this event a great success. Winners at the Tues- day evening card party were- Clarence Masters; Richard Manns; Bernice Wells; Ethel Goble; Meta Swain; Edna Larmer- with low going to Ken Whittington. Draws were won by Gladys Slack; Leslie Taylor and Harold Swain. Dalton and Kathleen Dorrell, Bruce and Marilyn Dickson attend- ed the Convocation Exer- cises at Niagara Univer- sity when Nancy Dickson received her Master of Science in Education concentrating in Ad- ministration and Super- vision on Saturday, May 26. On Friday, Richard and Ruby Van Camp, Lois and Jill, Mrs. Margaret Van Camp, at- tended Graduation Exer- cises and Banquet of Lawrence Van Camp at Kemptville Agricultural School. Lawrence re- mained for the Gradua- tion Dance returning home on Sunday. Con- gratulations Lawrence. Many other families will be attending gradua- tion exercies soon. I am sorry to report the passing of a former resident, Bernadette Keuning who passed away in St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto, after heart problems this past winter. She has had several heart operations. Her family was all home visiting and able to stay for the funeral. Cathy from France, Annette and her new husband, Leslie from New- foundland; and Cordell and his wife Nelly from Raglan. Her sister Allie was here visiting from Holland. Sympathy is ex- tended to her family and friends. Best wishes go with them. On Sunday afternoon, Babe and Wilf Brown of Courtice celebrted their 45th Wedding Anniver- sary, at the Bob Bryans farm. About 25 enjoyed a buffet supper and visiting. At the same time, two grand- daughters who have recently graduated from college were honoured- Lorri Fairey from the Dental Assistant Course, Durham College and her sister Bobbi Ann Fairey from the Architectural and Drafting Course of Centennial College. On Wednesday, the District Annual of the Durham East W.I. was held in Blackstock with the local W.I. hosting the day. They catered to ap- proximately 75 luncheon guests with an excellent lunch. In all, it was a very succesful day. Presiding for the business of the day was Blackstock native, Mar- jorie (McLean) Parr. Dora Martyn was elected 2nd Vice-President. Congratulations. On the same day, Shirley W.I. was hosting their District Annual at the Raglan United Church, when over eighty ladies attended. Congratulations to Hazel Coates who was elected second Vice-President and to June Degeer who becomes Education and Cultural Activities Convenor. The First Cartwright Group Committee held the Father and Son Ban- quet on Saturday even- ing at the Blackstock Recreation Centre. After a delicious pot-luck din- ner, Chairman Steve Ware presided over the evening's program. Section Leaders gave reports of the activities held during the scouting year. Some of the boys received special recognition. Cartwright Cubs 'A' Pack: The Blair Grahang Award was presented to David Brown by Harvey Graham; Kendall Chorostecki received the Akela's Award and COMPANY MEMORIALS OF DISTINCTION BRONZE & Renovations Custom Designing & Lettering oe Roy Grierson, federal candidate for the Durham Northumberland New Democratic Party told the newly formed executive of the riding association that he had already been out door knocking. 'The reception has been good. I've already run across New Democrats that | didn't know about before," Mr. Grierson said. At the meeting in Solina on April 15, a new executive was formed. President is Bernice David Brown won the Five Star General Award presented by Akela Ed Chorostecki. Cartwright Scouts 'B' Troop: Stephen Van Shagen and Robert Um- phrey shared the Camper of the Year Award and Adam Danter received the Scout of the Year Award. Troop Scouter David Barr and Assistant Leader Carl Beatty presented 5 Year Annual Interest "specialty" badges to the scouts that attend Fort York. v Patricia and Theodore Watson and Vincent of Norland were Saturday dinner guests of Earl and Marjorie Bradburn. The Blackstock Youth Group met at the home of Natalie Green on Sunday evening.
