On May 7, Mike Pall- otta asked Township council for permission to allow Sunday shoot- ing, but councillors tabled the matter until they had a chance to check the requirements in the by-law. At the council meeting May 14, the Township gun by-law was circulat- ed to members and it makes no reference to Sunday shooting or the need for municipal approval. On May 1, the Star carried a lengthy article about Larry and the plans to raise some $3000 for hyperbaric oxygen chamber treat- thing in writing which prohibits Sunday shoot- ing on a game preser- ve", he said. Township administ- rator Earl Cuddie told the meeting the restric- tion against Sunday hunting is contained in a Provincial statute, and Mr. Pallotta may still need Township council. However, Mr. Pall- otta said this may not be correct as Sunday hunt- ing is allowed on a licenced game pre- serve. Kiwanis plans fishing derby The Westmount Kiwanis Club of Oshawa has requested use of municipal property as headquarters for a two day fishing derby on Lake Scugog in July which would have a limited entry of 150 boats. In a letter to Township council, the Kiwanis Club asked for use of a site near water and boat launching facilities. The Club plans to set up facilities to sell food and beer during the two day event July 21 and 22. When the matter came up for discussion, members of council felt the area near the boat launching ramp west of Birdseye Park might be suitable for this pur- pose, but councillors would like to meet with reps from the Kiwanis Club before giving a final approval. lot of flak is shooting and killing of fenced-in pheasants on Sunday is allowed", said Ward 2 councillor Don Coch- rane. Ward 2 councillor Jack Cottrell agreed with his colleague, and Ward 1 councillor Neil Hunter warned two weeks ago that there could be opposition to the game farm and Sunday shooting from residents in Seagrave. Mr. Pallotta told the meeting May 7 that much of the business would be on the week- ends from September to November, and he wants to get all the proper and necessary approvals before he opens for business.
