"Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Rennie of Sunderland spent Saturday evening visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Armour McMillan. We are sorry to report Mrs. Verna Baird is a patient in Uxbridge Hospital. Hope she is able to be back home soon. Mr. and Mrs. Toni Minten spent the week- end in Bala and on Saturday attended the wedding of her niece. Rev. Rodgers offic- iated at the wedding of his cousin, Mr. William Dodwell to Mrs. Kath- leen Edwards at their home in Oshawa on Friday evening. Interested people of Greenbank Public School; there will be a Fun Fair at the school on Saturday, May 26 from 10 - 2 p.m. Included in the many activities will be a flea market, raffle, bake sale, games and refreshments. The monies raised will go towards a school trip in June. Greenbank Women's Institute The May meeting of the Greenbank Women's Institute was held on May 16th at the home of Mrs. Toni Minten, with twelve members and five visitors present. Our President, Mrs. Iva Phoenix opened the meeting with a poem "It is May". She reminded us about our plans to serve sandwiches on June 30th and July 1st at the Pioneer Days at the Scugog Museum. Roll call was answer- ed by 'What would you do if you had yesterday to live over'. Mrs. Jean Hunter read an article written by Mrs. Helen Steven on the care given to the residents of the nursing homes. Mrs. Stevens is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Diamond, and she reported that the Port Perry home is highly recommended for its good care. Mrs. Muriel Gibson gave a report about the high number of farm bankruptcies. Mr. W. Graham was the speaker for the day. He gave a very interest- ing and informative talk on the history of the Old Brock Road, Highway No. 12 and other roads in the area and why some areas were settled before others. A delicious dessert was served by Mrs. Shirley Lee, and Mrs. Minten. We wish to thank them and Mr. Graham for a very pleasant meeting. Weatherisn't too nice for group adventurers Seagrave and Area News by Patty Williams You'd think that Mother Nature could be a bit more thoughtful when it comes to the little folks at Playgroup. It was so cold for our trip to the Sugar Bush the sap wasn't even running, our first walk over to the park resulted in surprisingly soggy shoes and now rain clouds gather for the trip to Metro Zoo. This years class has sure had to be a hearty group and all the mothers have been good natured about these little adventures. To help pay for the bus the Playgroup mothers are selling cheese with the help of Mr. Wm. '""The Cheese Kelly an". Please have all orders back to the teacher by Thursday May 31. The cheese is excellent quality and the price is reasonable. Greenbank Public School is working to raise money for a school trip. They will be having a Fun Fair on Sat. May 26, 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. - flea market, bake sale, games, hot dogs and refreshments. The 1st Seagrave Guides had their annual Mother and Daughter Banquet. The highlight of the evening was the presentation by Comm- issioner Lomath to Lorna Durwood of her '""'All Around Cord'. Congratulations Lorna. The other girls who received badges were Alaine Weinhold, Tina Carr, Sheila Hopmans, Lisa Jansen, Trina Bacon, Heather Couper- waite, Sheila Clark, Tracy Bartlett and Loran Durwood. On Tuesday night 4 new girls were welcomed from Brownies. A warm welcome is extended to Nicole Addison, Emilie Smith, Jackie Dove and Shannon Thomas. It has come to the time of year for all the Durwoods to have a birthday celebration. Most of the families attended the Watermill Restaurant for supper. Later in the evening, Keith and Maisie Dur- wood opened their home for cake and ice cream. Those celebrating in the past week were Lorna, Marion, Jackie, Donna and Joan Durwood. Stan Williams is home from a 2 week stay in Oshawa Hospital. He is grateful for all the cards and acts of kindness from his friends and neighbours.
