Co-ordinator Elizabeth Fulford outlined the growth the organization has experienced over the last 365 days during Community Care's an- nual meeting, held last Wednesday afternoon in the Latcham Centre. "One of the inevitable unpleasant . things that happens to us is growing pains,' she said. Among the pains en- dured was the struggle for Scugog and Uxbridge Councils' approval for Handi-Transit in this area. Although approval was granted within re- cent weeks, organizers are still faced with the prospect of raising $13,000 before Handi- Transit can begin operating. Mrs. Fulford is hoping that will hap- pen sometime late in 1984 or in 1985. Community Care has also worked to expand Meals on Wheels coverage to Scugog Island, something that will start in mid-May. At Scugog Community Care's request the Durham Region Com- munity Care Association is conducting a survey into the needs of families who are caring for an older family member in their home. Another sign of growth was the hiring of Nel Marshall as Community Involvement and Volunteer Program (CIVP) co-ordinator for Scugog and Uxbridge. She will be focussing on CIVP clients and volunteers. "It is my hope that this program will become as visible as the Communi- ty Care program,' Mrs. Marshall said. In the past year, 52 At Manchester ucw new people made use of the Community Care ser- vices. Fifteen people passed away, 11 moved to homes for the aged and nursing homes, nine moved to another area and six no longer needed the services. During the business replace Muriel Krizanc, who will remain on the board. '"As the name in- dicates,"" she said, "Community Care is what we're all about."
