Council meets with proponents Marina project discussed Members of Township council met separately Monday afternoon with the two individuals who have submitted pro- posals for the operation of a new municipally- owned marina on the Port Perry waterfront. The Township is now in the process of trying to come up with a suitable agreement to rebuild the present Port Township wage hikes to average 3 per cent Wage and salary in- creases for Township "employees averaging five per cent were approved by Scugog council Monday after- noon. The increases cover both inside and outside employees, and are retroactive to January 1 of this year. While the overall average works out to a five per cent increase, in actual fact, some office staff at the lower end of the pay scale will receive larger than five per cent hikes, while the increase for senior per- sonnel is_less than five per cent. The wage and salary package includes in- creases for the Mayor and members of council as well. Members of council will now get paid $7100 yearly, up from the present $6825 they now receive. The collective agree- ment between the Town- ship and CUPE Local 1785 calls for wage increases of 38 cents an hour for temporary labourers and 54 cents per hour for the two classes of operators. The highest paid posi- tion in the Township is that of clerk-adminis- trator which now car- ries an annual salary of $32,250. Last month, the Town- ship advertised for proposals and received one from Port Perry businessman Chuck Preston, and the other from John Mackie of Oshawa, who has work- ed at the marina here for the past five summers. Council took no action following the meetings Monday with Mr. Mackie and Mr. Pres- ton, but Township administrator Earl Cuddie said later a decision on which pro- posal to accept might be made within the next three or four weeks. The current lease the Township has with the operator of the marina at Pori Perry runs out at the end of this October, and council is hoping that if an agree- ment can be worked out, a new facility could be constructed in time for the start of the boating season next spring.
