a PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 24, 1984 -- 25 Blackstock Curling Club hosts awards night Blackstock Area News by Joyce Kelly The Blackstock Curl- ing Club held its Award Dance on Saturday evening at the Black- stock Recreation Centre. During the evening Club President presented the prizes to the winners. Top Men's team was Keith Van- Camp, Mark Graham, John Churchill and Grant McLaughlin. Second place was taken - by Tim Cochrane, Ernie Swain, Herb Vine and Bob Beacock while the High School Team made up of Brian VanCamp, Jay VanCamp, Bob Hoo- geveen and Paul Green took third place. Dave and Ingrid Larmer of the Mixed Curling pre- sented the prizes to that league. Top team was Keith and Debbie Van- Camp, John and Helen Coates. Second place was taken by Dale and Janet VanCamp, John Green and Marilyn Sewell while third place was Harold Wright, Melanie Williams, Steve and Lynn Liptay. Four- th prize winners were Denzil and Tallya Moore and Dennis and Karen Yellowlees. Lucky prizes were won by Brian and Carol Gray and Jean Goble. On Thursday the Ladies curling Club held its closing pot luck dinner and presentation of prizes at the Anglican Church Parish Hall. President Sharon Wil- son welcomed all the curlers and rovers. Lucky draws were won by Arlene Rowan, Rie Hoogeveen, Karen Swanston, Debbie Williamson and Ruby VanCamp. Sharon presented the Club Plaque and first place prizes to Tuesday winners Helen Green, Heather McLaughlin, Ann Powell and Bev Goslin. Second place went to Monday winners Joyce Kelly, Kathleen Petrie, Jackie Beddome and Pat Poirier. Second on Monday went to Pat Fletcher, Ruby Van- Camp, Helen Nesbitt and Jean Goble. Second place Tuesday went to Mary Mackie, Leah Frew, Pat Sasnowski and Karen Rogers. Third place Monday went to Elaine Bailey, Linda Maw, Beth Schry- burt . and Debbie Williamson. Next year executive will be President Linda Maw, Vice-president Kathy McLaughlin, Treasurer - Rie Hoog- eveen, Schedule Manager - Lorna Edger- ton. These two events Scouts, Brownies and Guides will participate in uniform. Bicentennial trees will be planted as well. Try to attend this special event. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Byers were weekend guests of their daughter Janice and Les Bush- field and family of London. They all enjoy- ed a days shopping in Frankenmuth, Mich- igan. Ruth and Bill Marconi spent Easter with Ruth's sister Eileen and Art Fitzpatrick at Gravenhurst. They had recently visited Bill's Mother and helped her celebrate her 88th birth- day at the home of her daughter, Bill's sister Mr. and Mrs. Rowcliffe, Toronto. Easter guests of Vernon and Vera Assel- stine were Alan and Mary Asselstine, Tania, Michael and Mark of Ottawa, Les and Leia Asselstine, Gayle and Rob of Kitchener. Also on Sunday afternoon callers were Mildred Hanna and her son Bob of Oshawa. Howard Bailey was home from St. Wilfred Laurier Uni- versity for the weekend. Mrs. Carol DeGrosell- iers of Lindsay was a midweek luncheon guest of Mrs. Neil Bailey. On Wednesday evening a large number of Cartwright parents attended the annual Spring Swing held at the Port Perry High School. This annual musical concert is composed of numbers from each of the schools in Scugog. The Primary Choir directed by Mrs. C. Swain and accompanied by Miss Morton sang Ontario-0-0. Mrs. J. Jeffrey directed the junior choir in singing Pussy Willows, Cat Tails and We Do Our Best. The Intermediate Choir directed by Miss Love and accompanied by Niki Bardeleben sang Take a Little Time and Fame. The massed C.C.P.S. Choir sang Grow Along With Ont- _ario. This special bicen- tennial song was written by our own Miss Morton with Miss Thistle of Lindsay writing the words and was very well received by the large audience. The Cartwright High School Choir directed by Mr. R. Ashton and accompanied by Mrs. M. VanCamp sang It's Almost like being in Love and One. The Cartwright students all joined the many other students to sing the numbers High Hopes and Ontario. It was a very worth- while evening... On Saturday night Alan and Mary Assel- stine and family, Les and Lia Asselstine and family, Colin and Christine Asselstine, Floyd and Ruth Assel- stine and Michael, Theresa and friend Charles Burrell surpris- ed their parents, Vera and Vernon Asselstine with a family dinner at Emiel's in Port Perry to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary. After dinner they all returned to Floyd and Ruth's for pictures and a visit. So pleased to report that Mrs. Susie Harris has returned to Port Perry Hospital from Oshawa Hospital where she was very seriously ill last weekend. Your many friends hope for continual improvement. Included was a surprise for the person on your left that was all in fun and provided lots of laughs. Doreen VanCamp brought several copies of "Cartwright Revisit- ed" and everyone look- ed through the book together remembering past times in the comm- unity.
