Chellew who had to climb a high ladder (above) so all the young singers could see him. Great euchre turnout at community centre Ashburn Area News by Mrs. Rose Heron There was a good turnout at the Euchre party in the Community Centre last Thursday evening. The ladies prize went to Edna Mann and Violet Cole. The men's prizes were won by " Hervie Painter and Jim Housego. Verna Draper got the most lone hands. Alvin Spencer won the door prize and Jean Hodgins got the 50-50 draw. Next euchre will be on May 3rd. Every- one is welcome. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ashton and sons on Easter weekend were Mrs. Ruth Purdy of Mono Mils and Mr. Herb Ashton of Whitby. Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Laswick and son Ryan of Peterborough spent the weekend with their rents, Mr. and Mrs. Wood and son Mark. A very meaningful Good Friday service was held in the church when scriptures were read by Barbara Porter, Jack Davidchuk and Ken Brown. Chrissie McKinney led in prayer. Rev. McEntyre and Arnold Ashton sang a lovely duet "Jesus Lover of My Soul". Rev. McEntyre gave a very fitting message. Two lovely large pots of Easter lillies were placed at the front of Burns Church last Sun- day. The Jr. choir began the service by singing "Lord of the Dance'. Scriptures were read by Art Mathews and Nellie Hopkins. The Sr. choir sang the Anthem "He Lives". Rev. McEntyre sang a very beautiful solo, "The Holy City". It was good to see quite a few former members and friends come to worship with us on Easter Sunday. Next Sunday there will be a special service at 11:15 in Burns Church when Margaret Stew- art, Missionary Nurse, working with the Leprosy victims at Papau, New Guina will be the guest speaker. Everyone is urged to attend this very import- ant service. Rev. McEntyre will under go ear surgery this week. Our thoughts and prayers will be with him. Dr. Rev. George Moore will be in charge of services here during Rev. McEntyre's time. Please remember Sunday May 6th as we celebrate the 16th Ann- iversary of the new church and commor- ation service. Gale Rodgers of Napanee will be the soloist in the morning with 'The Torchmen' from St. Catherines will sing in the evening. The Kirk Guild cord- ially invite all ladies to the next meeting on Tuesday May 1st at 8 p.m. in the Church Hall. Lorraine Coombs will be demonstrating the fas- inating craft of Folk Art. Bands and choirs from schools throughout Scugog Township entertained a large audience of parents and admirers. Easter egg hunt a success Greenbank News by Margaret Couperthwaite The Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at the Hall was a success again this year. There were 9 children with many parents in attendance and out. Weather was sunny and cool but a good time was had by all. Thanks to all who helped. Many from the comm- unity attended the inspiring Good Friday service held in Green- bank Church with many young people taking part. Also a good turnout on Sunday to welcome Richard Allan King, Lorie Jane Pearse, and Suzanne Merideth Saunders into the membership of the Church by profession of their faith. Next Sunday service at the regular hour. May 13th the Greenbank UCW will conduct the service and June 3rd will be the Greenbank S.S. Anniversary. The Greenbank UCW will be held on Tuesday, May 1st at the home of helping Helen Parish at 2 o'clock. Please note change of date. It was nice to see so many families home for Easter. Mr. and Mrs. Jim lanson, Murray and Shirley, Janice and Brian and Debbie Mark were all up to Hepworth to help Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Walker cele brate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary on Saturday. Charlene and Kelly Lee from Trout Creek were visiting with Murray and Shirley for a couple of days. Helen Lee from Kitchener was with her mother Mrs. Vera Lee for the long weekend. Jack and Margaret Couperthwaite visited recently with his sister, Mrs. Bur and Tom and her sister Tylor Somerville of Calander.
