~ Welcome from the south Nestleton - Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Families in the News A very warm welcome to Victor and Minnie Ayling of Scugog Point - who have return- ed just recently from the sunny South - having spent four months in Florida. The first month and a half they enjoyed Dunedin, then later they had a pleasant time in Clearwater. They are planning to return for the winter months next year. Ray and Dorothy Car- son, New Liskeard, Ray's daughter Judy Carson, Thessalon, and Helen Vine, Blackstock, were Good Friday even- ing Supper guests with George and Ella Bowers and Earl of Nestleton. Calvin and Yvonne Holland, Chad and Craig, Bowmanville, were Easter Sunday evening supper guests with Neta Fish of Nest- leton. Grandaughter Vicki Bannister of Peterborough was a weekend guest. Daughter Audrey Leish- man and William Dun- can, Reaboro, had dinner with Neta on Sunday. Easter dinner guests with Victor and Winelda Malcolm on Sunday were the members of the immediate family - Wayne and Joan Mal- colm and Kevin, Brenda Haines, Vernon and Nancy Malcolm and family, all of Nestleton and Jamie and Denise Kent and family of Orono and Mark and Kathy Malcolm and family of Janetville. A fine celebration! On Saturday evening, Helen Vine and girls "hosted" an Easter supper. Those attending were: her parents George and Ella Bowers, Nestleton, Con- stable Jerry Bowers of Peterborough, Ray and Dorothy Carson, New Liskeard, Judy Carson of Thessalon, and Herb Vine, Blackstock. Mrs. Frances Sutton, daughter Joyce and husband Ken Gray, Orono, visited on Friday with the George Bowers in Nestleton. Easter weekend guests with Sam and Mabel Cawker, Scugog Point Rd., consisted of the immediate family - Arthur and Carroll Cawker, Cheryl and Bryan of Sudbury, Alan and Eleanor Cawker and Christie, and Grant and Merna Cawker and Cathy all of Oshawa, Mrs. M. Twamley, Tor- onto, and Sylvia Cawker, Chandre and Jason of Scarborough. On Saturday the Arthur Cawkers and the Sam Cawkers had a lovely visit with David and Helen Thomson in their nice new home in Port Perry. The Caesarea Youth Club had a fine time on Friday evening, April 20, with approximately fifty youngsters on hand - held in the Caesarea / Centre. The winning couple for the spot dance - Mike Douma and Sheri Bouillon each receiving a $3.00 prize. The disc jockeys were "twin brothers Steve and Scott McEachern. Chap- erones were Wayne and Elaine Bradt - dance 7 - 10 p.m. Refreshments and a snack bar for added pleasure was a feature. An enjoyable evening for all! Nestleton Ladies Aid The ladies aid met in the church hall in April with Pres. Dorothy Lee presiding. After a warm welcome she read a poem entitled 'One Day at a Time" and opened with a hymn and the Lord's Prayer in unison. Mrs. Lee Shaw gave the splendid devotional - reading a portion of Mark 10: 13-16 with commentary "Children as Symbols of Faith" - closing with Prayer from These Days Book- let. Mrs. Winnifred Davison read minutes and gave financial report. Correspondence included thank yous for cards, etc. rec'd. A letter from the Hospital Auxiliary re Spring Fair and members decided to send a cash donation. A letter from the comm- unity hall committee regarding the Bicen- tennial celebration to be held in July. Mrs. Lee Shaw and Mrs. W. Davison will represent the Presbyterian Church. The roll call was answered with a Bible verse or poem. The programme con- sisted of readings by Mrs. D. Vivian, Mrs. F. Dayes and Miss R. Proutt. A hymn and Mizpah Benediction closed the meeting. A delicious lunch was served by Mrs. L. Shaw and Mrs. F. Dayes and an enjoyable visit followed. Mrs. George Wolfe voiced the appre- ciation to those respons- ible for the meaningful afternoon. Family News Pleased to know that Mrs. Stirling (Helen) Moore of Nestleton village has had back surgery in Wellesley Hospital in Toronto and is coming along fine. She'll be there about a month. (Helen is the lady who lives on the corner in the white house that always has such pretty flowers). Wouldn't it be nice to send her a cheery card? Glad to hear that Mr. Zack Adams of Bow- manville (a favourite of ours) who is in Hospital - having had surgery - is making a good re covery. Jerry Bowers, George and Ella Bowers of Nestleton were in to see him recently. All the best to Zack! Happy Event We congratulate Guy and Debbie Guthrie of Scugog Point on the arrival of a little daughter Kristy May - born in Port Perry Hospital just recently - a wee sister for Robert. The Cawkers of Scugog Point, enjoyed supper and a great visit this past week with Wilfred and Jeanette Alexander, Wilfred Jr., Grant and a friend, Walt Rogers at the Alexander home in Oshawa. The Church News A good attendance of adults and a number of children were present at the Caesarea Commun- ity Church for the Easter service. Rev. W.H. Crawford D.D. presented the Resurrec- tion Message taken from Mark 16: last chapter. Theme "Who Shall Roll The Stone Away'. Mrs. Crawford - organist. Each child rec'd an Easter bunny - a little treat! The Sun- shine Club - under the direction of Jacqueline McDermott - will hold a special meeting on Mon- day, 45 p.m. in the Caesarea Centre with treats for the young- sters. The Good Friday Ser- vice at Nestleton United for the Pastoral Charge was well attended with many from both church- es having a part in this meaningful day, Rev. Dale Davis conducted the service. The choir performed well with solemn, profound music for Good Friday - solo- ists were Gail Hiemstra, Regenia Walker, Janice MacKenzie and guest Glenn Larmer - with organist Gwen Malcolm at the helm. A service characterized by intens- ity of feeling. Sorry - we were unable to attend! With almost a capac- ity attendance at the Nestleton United Church on Easter Sun- day many guests were welcomed by the min- ister Rev. Dale Davis. Three generations of Malcolms were greeters at the door - Victor Malcolm, daughter Brenda Haines, and grandaughter Tracy Malcolm. The Harmony singers composed of our MODULAR 4 SERVICING PHILIPS own Gail Hiemstra, David Marlow, Carol Riggs, Peter Evans and soloist Cathy Randall, gave much pleasure to members of the con- gregation - with their inspirational 'music - they give music soul and feeling. Our organist Gwen Malcolm accom- panied the soloist on the piano. The minister Rev. Davis spoke on 'A New Day'. - a brief but excellent message. A fine story re - Easter held the large number of children spell bound. Lovely Easter lilies graced the Sanctuary. arrangements in the memory of Reva Phillip - a relative of Howard Jackson of Reaboro who placed them in the church. Sacrament of Baptism next Sunday at 11:15 a.m. : Notices July 7 has been chosen as the date that Nesle- ton will celebrate the Bicentennial as well as the 10th anniversary of the Rec. Centre. The Nestleton Recreation Committee is hosting a meeting May 2 at 7 p.m. for all groups, organ- - izations and individuals in the area to plan and co-ordinate events for that day. Please plan to attend and help make this a successful day. Also - reserve Mother's Day, May 13th for the annual Pancake Brunch. Spring Smorgasbord A few tickets are still available for the de- lightful Spring Smor- gasbord to be held May 4th, 5 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. in the Nestleton Comm- unity Centre. Advance tickets only. Gail Wallace put on the costume and Eileen Hern was among the volunteers who served coffee and cake. The social hour was organized by the physiotherapy and dietary staff at the hospital. Greenbank UCW meeting by Barb Ward The April meeting of the Greenbank U.C.W. was held at the beautiful home of Helen Mec- Kean's. Muriel Gibson, Rachel McMillan, Carol Cordner and Helen Mc- Kean had the devotional part of the meeting. The hymns "Old Rugged Cross" and 'Near The Cross" were sung by all. The group put on a skit called "Women Around the Cross". Carol Cordner read the poem "In the Garden of Gethsemane' and Helen McKean read "The Way of the Cross". The business part was opened by the president, Mary Jean Till, followed by the roll call, minutes, and correspondence read by the secretary, Barbara Ward. The . treasurer's report show- ed a balance. It was decided to carry on the Foster Child Program that the Evening Unit was spon- soring. Jean Clarke reported on the Region- al Rally that was held in Canningston. The UCW Church Service will be held on May 13th at 11 a.m. On May 8th, the Region 1 Rally will be held in Valentia. Green- bank UCW are to put on a short skit. A delegate is needed to go to Camp Quin-Mo- Lac on Sept. 7,8 and 9th. The Hospital Auxiliary is holding a sale on April 28 at Latcham Centre and donations are need- ed. Greenbank Hall Yard Sale is on May 19th.
