{ i { i i 3 | 3 1 Youth dies when car hits parked tractor-trailer A 19-year old Ux- bridge area youth was killed late Friday even- ing when the car in _ which he was a pass- enger hit a tractor trailer parked on the side of Concession 8, just west of Highway 12. Durham Region Police say Kevin Higgins was a passen- ger in the back seat of a car driven by 16 year old Donald Noble of R.R.2, Uxbridge. According to police, the accident occurred in foggy conditions about 11:00 P.M. Noble and another passenger, Sandra Jones, 20, of Port Perry escaped without injury. A Durham Police spokesman said Mon- day morning the acci- dent is still under inves- tigation. Body found by man out fora morning walk A Pefferlaw man out for a Sunday morning walk made a grim discovery in a wooded area near the Uxbridge- Scott Town line road, just west of Durham Road 21. At about 9:35 A.M, he found a badly de- composed body which police described as white, male, wearing black leather boots and green work pants. A Durham Police spokesman said the body appears to have been there for quite some time. A bicycle was found nearby and there Were signs of a campfire. Police said the body has been sent to the Forensic Science Centre in Toronto and until a report has been finishe- ed, it won't be known if foul play was involved. Federal Liberals to meet April 25 Liberals in the federal riding of Durham- Northumberland will meet on April. 25 to select delegates to the national leadership con- vention to be held this June in Ottawa. . Local riding assoc- iation president Fran- cine Newton said last week seven delegates will be selected, includ- ing two women and two youths from 16 to 25 years of age. Mrs. Newton said any member of the Assoc- iation in good standing can let his or her name stand as a delegate to the leadership conven- tion. And any person hold- ing a riding association membership card up to 72 hours prior to the meeting is elegible to vote. The meeting will be held Wednesday even- ing, April 25 at Clarke High School on Highway 35, just a couple of miles north of Highway 401. It gets underway at 8:00 P.M. The federal riding of Durham - Northumber- land includes Port Perry and all of Scugog Township. With a federal election expected as early as this fall, Port Hope real estate agent Darce Campbell has publicly announced his intention to seek the Liberal nomination, and there are several others who are thinking ser- iously about it.
