McCallum, of Port Perry, Ontario is shown in class com- pleting his studies at the Naval Operations Course at Canadian Forces Base, Halifax. The course is the last step in an intensive two and a half year training program before SLT McCallum joins his first operational ship HMCS Athabaskan. SLT McCallum enrolled in the Navy in Toronto, Ontario. He has spent the first eighteen months of his career at CFB Chilliwack and CFB Esquimalt in- cluding six months at sea in various Cana- dian Warships. Front St. Manufacturers of Quality Furniture since 1974 PUBLIC NOTICE Earthfill Dyke Project Nonquon Provincial Wildlife Management Area Ducks Unlimited (Canada) and the Labrador Retreiver Club (On- tario), through the Ministry of Natural Resources, Lindsay District are proposing to construct a series of earthiill dykes in a wetlend system on Lot 19, Concession 11 of Scugog Township (formerly Reach Township). The wetland drains, primarily through seepage, northward to the Layton River, which in turn drains into Lake Scugog via the Nonquon River. The earthfill dykes would permit Ducks Unlimited (Canada) to control water levels behind the dykes which would improve the ability of the wetland to act as waterfow! habitat. The Labrador Retriever Club (Ontario) is interested in producing a larger, higher quality area in which to hold retriever trials than presently exists at the site. The area flooded by the proposed Labrador Retriever Club (Ontario) project is relatively small compared the the Ducks Unlimited (Canada) project, but would still provide additional habitat for waterfowl. The ares is presently being used for retriever trisls by the Labrador Retriever Club (Ontario), and as an environmental education area by the Durham Board of Education, through an agreement with the Ministry of Natural Resources. The joint project is being planned under the Ministry of Natural Resources approved class environmental assessment for Dams and Dykes, and is located entirely on Crown Land.
