The Scugog Beautif- ication Committee is well in advance and have made _ many con- tacts. Most areas now have representatives, A Whitby company has promised soil. Other garden centres have promised help with planting. The next meet- ing is at the Railroad House Motel at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday April 18 when there will be a showing of slides to show what has been accomplished in Mark- ham, Unionville and other areas. Even if you are not on the Comm- ittee, you may get ideas for your own home. Much free time has been devoted to this project but finances will be required in some areas and therefore donations will be requested to help beautify for our own satisfaction and to pro- mote tourism. Don't forget to go to the Island United Church today Wed. at 8 p.m. to see Miss Beat- rice McLean's slides of the Holy Land. Then again Sunday evening at... 7 p.m. to see the movie - "The Shroud of Turin". Last Thursday was paint up day at the Island United and several including 2 men A PARTY... April is Cancer Month turned out to help. By Sunday morning the basement was bright and springlike and cert- ainly will add much to the atmosphere for the Easter Breakfast, Sun- day morning April 22 - 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. prior to the morning service. We thank all those who helped. On Wednesday even- ing 18 members of the 'Head' UCW met at the home of Jan. Gerrow. The group leader Betty Reader led her group in a Devotional period involving a skit to bring the meaning of Easter more pronounced. There was corres- pondence from the Bible Society acknowledging our donations toward a shipment of bibles in May. Community Care sent a request for volunteers to drive for Meals on Wheels with gas being paid, Monday, Wed- nesday and Friday to residents of Scugog Island who require this service. It is felt that a total of 12 drivers are needed at the present time. If you can help or you know of someone who requires temporary or full time help, please call Community Care. We were informed that the Jr. and Sr. choirs plan for their concert on Friday, April 27. The next day the '"'Head" UCW will serve refreshments at an ° x 77, SNACK SALE Buy one snack at regular price and get second one at no extra charge. Each snack contains 2 pieces of fried chicken and fries. auction at the Island Marina and also help at the Hospital Spring Fair in Port Perry. On May 2 the "Head" UCW will join with the "Grace" UCW at the Church to enjoy the pictures of China by Mrs. Wallace. All will meet at 7:30 p.m. to conduct © a / separate business program. Don't forget to call members of the "Head"' UCW if you know of special crafts for dis- play at the Art and Craft Show in May. Please don't forget to keep saving your used stamps for the Leprosy Mission. We are still collecting grocery tapes to help finance the Hospital Building addition. At present we know of 2 Island men in hospital. Mr. Bill Middleton of Scugog Road took a bad turn and had to be taken to Port Perry. Mr. Vernie Morrow of Mc Laren's Beach recently had surgery in the Oshawa Hospital and is recuperating very well. We trust both men will soon recover enough to return home.
