Congratulations to the Cochrane Trotters in the Championship win on Sunday morning over a stubborn Emmerson's Club. The Trotters got to the final by defeating IGA 1-0 in a hectic and well played game which was brought right to the end. An early goal by Chris Watson with no help put the Trotters in this final with IGA to be congratulated for a fine effort. The Finals Game 1 Friday Cochrane Trotters - 4 Emmerson's Ins. -3 The Cochrane Trotters took a lead early in this game, Chris Watson scoring and Venning picking up the assist. Then both teams traded good opportunities. Dad Irvine scored with Mike Brock assisting in the first period and tied at 1-1. In the second period both of these teams were waiting for the other to open things up and with the tight check- ing going on, one would wonder when it was going to happen. Eric Grosvenor put Emmer- sons ahead scoring mid- way in the second period ending the suspense fin- ally with help from Jim Smith and Orr. In the third period, both teams broke loose from the barrier and we saw a hard checking, passing and some close encounters around the net. Mike Stanley finally scored to tie it up with help from 'The Bird" Venning and Elliott. Cochrane Trotters opened the scoring with the "Bird" Venning scoring on passing from McBride and Bache. Mike Stanley put the Trotters two up after a pass in the Emmerson end zone and was all alone going into beat Kendall cleanly on the right side. But that didn't last long before Jason Petrie scoredon a pass from Bertrand. Emmerson's started the third period like they wanted this game badly with hustle and tight checking and they finally scored. Bobby Orr on a shot from the blue line, McTavish and Irvine assisting. Seven minutes down the road Tony Haynes scored on a rebound from Crone. Tony lying on the ice wacked it home giving the Trotters the win and the Championship 3-2 C0. re. Belles skate fo a 4-3 win On Wednesday, March 28 the Port Perry IGA Belles hosted a fast team from Markham for an exhibition game. Two weeks off ice affected Port, but they came up with a 43 victory. It was a close hard-fought game and Jill Kendall kept Port in the game with some excellent saves. Scoring for Port was Janice Jackman with 3 goals, 1 assist; Joanne Connors 1 goal, 2 assists; Esther Sternad, 2 assists; and Kim Garland picking up one assist. Saturday night they travelled to Mariposa for the last game of the schedule. Port never quit working, and really deserved the 6-3 victory. Scoring was handled by Kelly Storry and Janice Jackman each with 2 goals, 1 assist; Sue Waite, 2 "assists; Joanne Connors and Kelley Raines each gett- ing 1 goal and Steph Whitehead and Kim Garland each picking up 1 assist. Good game girls! During the March break, Port travelled to Ottawa for a one day tournament. We won our first game 12-4, but lost the second game 6-5 in sudden death over- time.
