We opened our meeting with the singing of O Canada, with Edna Beckett at the piano. After minutes, business and various reports, we finished this part of the meeting with the Mizpah Benediction. Penny bingo, shuffle- board and euchre were played until 5 o'clock when we had a lovely pot-luck supper. Our next meeting will be at Latcham Centre March 28 Blood donor clinic to be held The Sunderland Lion' Club and Brock Branch 141 Royal Canadian Legion will jointly spon- sor a Red Cross Blood donor clinic on Tuesday, March 27th 1984. The clinic will be held at the Sunderland United Church in Sunderland between the hours of 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Donors are urgently required, and anyone in good health between the ages of 17 and 65 years can donate the "Gift of Life". Donors are requested not to take aspirin or similar medication for" at least 24 hours prior to the clinic. A very special guest imported for the 'Classical Tom' concert this Friday and Sat- urday at Town Hall 1873 in Port Perry will be accomplished jazz pianist Dick Sharp. A native of Chicago, Mr. Sharp now per- forms out of Detroit. His musical history is rich and varied, with a back- ground in classical piano, but primary interest centering on show music and jazz. A childhood spent both in Vauderville and in hon- ing his skills as pit PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 20, 1984 -- 7 Dick performs 'Classical Tom' pianist for various theatres well prepared him for such activities as musical director of Meadowbrook Theatre, accompanist-conductor for scores of famous show business personal- ities, and his many years doing keyboard work for Universal Studios in fabled Holly- wood. One of Mr. Sharp's many credits in the latter field is the score for the film Exodus. Primarily, the artist's greatest abili- ties lie in the area of jazz improvisation and his repertoire, vast and rich, spahs music from the 20's to the present Joining Dick Sharp and Tom Millar in this eclectic concert will be gifted local violinist Rolf Pederson, who will perform both with Tom's piano accomp- animent and also as a soloist. Having studied in such wide-ranging locales as Ottawa and Saskatoon, Mr. Peder- son brings to the string- ed instrument a wealth of talent and experi- ence.
