The George Stone boys have never been known as fast starters and found themselves a goal down within a few minutes. Port was really trying hard to get back in the game when eventually Matt Dur- ward connected with 'assists from Bradbury --House League -- NOVICE Remax Realty - 3 Kinsmen - 2 Remax Realty got 3 straight goals early then Kinsmen fought back within 1 goal to end 3-2. Remax scoring Tom ~. Durward 1 goal, 1 assist; Scott Wylie and Robert McEachern 1 goal each and Mike Pugh 1 assist. Kinsmen scoring Marc Porier and Lee Whitter 1 goal each with Neil Mueller and Mike Labanovich each with an assist. Gord Lewis -3 Port Perry Printing - 2 Port Perry Printing were leading 2-1 but Gord Lewis came back to take the win 3-2. Lewis scoring Adam Johnson a hat trick, assists going to Derek Buller and Kenton Lefort. Muskies scoring Clay Scott and Jeff Card 1 goal each and Mark Jansen 1 assist. David's Hairstyling - 5 Don Forder Ins. - 2 Davids Hairstyling and Don Forder Ins. were tied after 2 periods but Davids came out skating in the third to record the win 5-2. Davids scoring Davy Bourgeois and Simon Traynor 2 goals each and Vernon. Gerry Douma seemed to be hogging the puck too much but his great per- sistence was rewarded when he put Port ahead. Ernestown drew even when they scored on a. penalty. To really upset things, the opposition drew ahead against a short handed Port. What a period! The Stone lads came out hustling like they had never done before, but again some sloppy defence let Ernestown draw undeservedly further ahead. Port con- tinually buzzed around their opponents goal but Vernon, Douma and and Dave Pashley 1 goal all unassisted. Forders scoring Todd Smart and Brett Lawson 1 goal each and Jeremy Norton and Dale Brad- bury 1 assist each. Davids Hairstyling - 2 Gord Lewis - 1 Davids Hairstyling and Gord Lewis played a very close checking game but Davids ended up on top 2-1. Davids scoring Davy Bourgeois and Simon Traynor 1 goal each with Darryl Slack and Mike Pothier each picking up an assist. Lewis lone goal scored by Derek Buller assisted by Ricky Olaisen and Andrew Pereman. Kinsmen - 2 Don Forder Ins. - 2 Don Forder Ins. went 2 up on Kinsmen but Kinsmen fought back to tie the game 2-2. Kins- men scoring Marc Porier 2 goals and an assist to Sandy Mark. Forders goals by Todd Smart and Jeremy Norton and Dale Brad- bury picked up an assist. Remax Realty - 3 Port Perry Printing - 0 Remax Realty scored 1 goal in each period to Local skaters pass the test by Gail Chellew At their most recent test day in Sunderland, the following skaters were successful in pass- ing tests: Dutch Waltz: Melissa Berry, Erin Chellew, Gretchen Cornish, Tamara Elliott, Michelle Finley, Kim Gower, Carol Hale, Ken Ross, Tammy Zapar- anuik. The pressure paid off eventually with a super unassisted Dur- ward goal. The third period start- ed bad for Port with an early goal being lost but we rattled back with a quick pair, one by Douma and the other by Akkerman. At this point the defence was playing superbly with Jamie Brown great in goal. Port went ahead with Durward's third but two minutes later the Ernestown bunch equal- ized. What an end to end defeat Port Perry Print- ing 3-0. Remax scoring Scott Wylie and Robert McEachern 1 goal, 1 assist each, Elton Har- man 1 goal and Mike Pugh 1 assist. ATOM UAW-2 Lake Scugog Lumber - 2 With UAW up 1 game in the series, Scugog had to win or tie to stay alive, and they got a big effort from every player to do so. Phil Edgar opened the scoring for UAW with Chris Forder assisting, then Brett Puckrin evened it for Scugog with a fine individual effort. Early in the third period Chris Forder put UAW ahead once again, but with only 2 minutes remain- ing Shawn Larocque broke free and tied it for Scugog. UAW-2 Lake Scugog Lumber - 1 The third game of this series was filled with non-stop action and great goaltending. Brian Madill for UAW and Jeff Labanovich for Scugog gave two of the finest demonstrations of goaltending seen this season. At the end of the first period it was tied at 1, with goals by Phil Edgar for UAW and Brett Puckrin for Scugog. Shane Nanay and Jason McBride picked up assists on UAW's marker. The second period was scoreless in spite of numerous great chances for both teams. The winner was finally scored with only 5 min- utes remaining when Jason McBride showed the Scugog team every move he has, then fired home his own rebound. UAW now proceed to the finals. Marj Tripp -2 Swamp -0 Facing elimination, Tripp reached down for a little extra effort and defeated Swamp to. force a 4th game. David Talbot was outstanding in net including a great stop on a penalty shot. Tripp's goals came from Mike Olaisen and John Collins. affair this was. Gerry Douma did some great hustling work and put Port ahead 7-6, but a minute later he drew an unnecessary penalty and had, not only the Port players, but also all their parents having heart attacks as Ernes- town drew level 7-7 again. Despite all sorts of Port Perry pressure the period ended that way. The extra period was all action and captain Sean Bradbury put in a beauty from an Akker- man assist. Port draws . another penalty and are we going to lose that goal again? No - some fancy work by Jim Ver- non and Sean Bradbury put the score at 9-7. Gerry Douma then put it beyond doubt with two beauties to make it 11-7. This George Stone team did a great job to bring the series back to 2-1 for Port. Everybody should come out for the next game at Port Perry and cheer our team on. Let's finish it at home so we don't have to drive all the way to Kingston again! It took three weeks to finish, but the Couples Tournament at Centennial Lanes drew to a close with the team of Wayne (left) and France Venning on top. Above, they're PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, March 20, 1904 -- 23 Sunday afternoon at Centennial Lanes was the scene for an ex- citing Hi-Lo tournament, won by Arlene Pargeter (left) with a score of 480 and partner Sue Jackson, with 603. presented trophies and a gift certificate from Lanes owner James Rider. Runners-up were Barb Martin and Joe Stone. The winning score was 4356, decided by total pins plus a handicap. Close one for the girls Port Perry Kinette Tweens and Port Perry Sportsland Juniors play- ed two exhibition games on Sat. March 17 and Sunday March 18. Both games were very close all the way through. The first game was opened with Heather Muir s~r- ing for Sportsland and then Jen Pelow put one in the other end for Kin- ettes. Second goal for Sportsland was set up by Colleen Scala and scored by Dawn Park. Going into the second period Jessica Fluke put another in for Kinettes unassisted. Heather chalked up another for Sportsland, unassisted which ended the game 3-2 for Sportsland Juniors. Heidi Meisner played a good game in net especially when she has never attempted this position before, for the Juniors and Terry Childs played well in goal for the Tweens. The second game started with Sheri Harris scoring for Kin- ette Tweens and back to the other end Heather slid in a goal assisted by Tina Soomre for Sports- land Juniors. Heidi gained possession of the ring and scored two goals for the Juniors and the second was assisted by Karyn Raines. The ring going to the opposite end of the ice gave Kim Loudfoot the opportunity to slip it in the net for Kinettes and then Sheri ended the game with the last goal assisted by Coleen Yorke. This was a good game ending with a 3-3 tie. Vicki Reid played a good game in net for the Juniors and thanks to Jill Kendall for her assistance in goal for the Tweens.
