C and B doubled Utica 4-2 fo win the best of three Petites lose 11-3 On Sat. March 17, the Bruton's 1.D.A. Petites hosted the Whitby Color Your World team and went down to defeat 11-3. The girls were only able to score 1 goal per period. Scoring for Port were Misty Andrews with 2 goals and Lisa Levy with 1 goal. Assists went to Misty and Lisa with 1 each. On Sunday March 18, the Bruton's I1.D.A. Petites travelled to Oshawa to meet the Optimist Club and had to settle with a 4-4 tie. On Friday, March 9 the Kinette Tweens entered this tournament which was held in Sun- derland. There were eight teams in the Tweeh division and the way the tournament was sel up there was only a championship round. Although the girls started out with high hopes, these were quickly dashed with a loss of 11-5 to Woodville in their first game. The following morn- ing the girls played a determined game against Oshawa and came away with a 63 victory. With this win there was a slight chance to progress to the final if we won our next game against Ajax. Denna Lovering in her first game in goal made some super saves and certainly led the way to this tie. All girls played well and all deserve credit in this game. Scoring for Port were Nicky Beare - 1 goal; Misty Andrews - 2 goals; and Lisa Levy with 1 goal. Assists went to Danielle Lally 2; Lisa 2; and Amy Parliament 1. Next game is on Sun- day March 25th at 3:30 p.m. in Oshawa. See you there! The Ajax game was closely fought until the latter stages when Ajax scored 2 quick goals to ensure a 4-1 victory. Even though our girls couldn't get it together when they played their first game on Friday, by Saturday they had re gained their momentum and played two excellent games. Scoring for the tour- nament was as follows: Jennifer Pelow 4 goals, 2 assists; Kim Loudfoot 3 goals, 5 assists; Shérry Harris 2 goals, 1 assist; Kim Caudle 1 goal, 1 assist; Colleen Yorke 1 goal, 2 assists; Melissa 'Moehring 1 goal; Jessica Fluke 3 . assists; Val White 1 assist; Cindy Harris 1 assist. 3) a final in a two game sweep. The final goal came with just seconds on the clock as C and B put one info an empty net to cement the win and league title. C and B emerged as winners of the Port Perry Broomball League with a 4-2 win over Utica Farm Equipment Sunday afternoon. The first period proved unproductive for either side though they had their chances. Both teams had their chances at putting it in behind goalers Don Card and Kevin Beer, especially Utica's Alex Shelemba who knocked down a hip level pass from Aldon Smith only to be thwart- ed by Beer. C&B broke the ice at the 10:12 mark of the second when on the power play Mark Lee fed Tim Ashbridge standing at the edge of the Utica net. It stood as the .only goal of the game until, with 6:50 to play in the third, Dave Dickson put C&B up by 2 on a strange goal. Bart Wagar had lost the ball in the corner where Dickson picked it up and went to pass it to the front of the net where goaler Don Card had come out anticipating the play only to have the ball go behind him where he inadvertently knocked it in with his glove. Instead of rolling over and dying Utica came back to make it 2-1 when Mike Mitchell re- directed Ian Down's shot between Beer's legs. Dickson notched his second goal of the game when Mark Lee's shot missed the net and banked off the back boards to Dickson's broom who had the empty net. With 58 seconds left in regula- tion time, and holding a power play Utica pulled Card in favour of the extra attacker. This more than paid off with 7 seconds left as Aldon Smith, standing at the edge of the crease bang- ed in a pass from Chester Down. On the ensuing face off Ed Olsen picked up the loose ball and pounded it into the vacant net just before the horn went. Bart Wagar, who had drawn the face-off got the assist. Most of the teams in the league are not fin- ished yet as there is a tournament in Oshawa on March 31. Ashbridge, Kevin Beer. Pearce Auctioneers travelled to Cobourg for their 2nd play off game going down to defeat, 2-0 loss. "Port came out playing strong but were unable to get the puck in the net. Cobourg scored their first goal in the first period dnd their 2nd goal in the 3rd. On March 14, Cobourg returned to Port for the 3rd play off game, but this time the Auction cers went home happy with a 2-1 win. Jeff Andrews put Port on the scoreboard in the 1st period with the assist being credited to Chadd Brown. In the 3rd period, Steven Desau- tels scored the 2nd goal of the game assisted by Michael Williams and Lindsay Parry, Cobourg AYE EX EE EAN scored their only goal of the game with only 49 seconds left in the game. On Friday and Sat- urday, March 16 and 17th, the Auctioneers travelled to Plattsville for the Little Brane Novice Tournament. In the 1st game, Port play- ed Guelph's AA team. Michale Sluggett scored nT nla . game in the 1st period assisted by Steven Desautels. Guelph scored their only goal in the 3rd period with only 2 minutes and 39 seconds left in the play. The scoring ended in a 1-1 tie. In the 5 minute overtime no goals were scored but Guelph had 1 shot on net and there- fore won the game. In the second game, Port met Galt another AA team going down to defeat, 4-0 loss. All the boys played a good strong game but were unable to put one in the net. On Tuesday, March 20 the Auctioneers will travel to Cobourg for another play off game. On Sunday, March 25 Cobourg returns to Port for a play off game.
