Rider - Jr. C "old-timers 1, challenge the MoJacks The Port Perry Minor Hockey Association will be the big winner on March 17 when the Junior C "Old-timers" take to the ice at the Scugog Arena against the 1983-84 MoJacks. This will be the second year in a row for this ex- hibition game and all proceeds are to be turn- ed over to the PPMHA. Last year, the "Old Boys" showed that they still know their way around the blue lines as they defeated the Mo- Jacks by a score of 9-3. Junior C fans in Port Perry will recognize many of the players in the "Old Boys" line-up for this Saturday's game, including: Ken David- son, Shawn Lackie, Ken Nightingale, Paul Curtis, Harry Fair, Paul Had- den, Larry Geer, Gary Elliott, Neil McLaughlin, Bob Marquis, Grant McLaughlin, Paul Kane, Dave Bourgeois, Ken Jeffrey, Dave Jackson, Rick Campbell, Doug Christie, Mark Jobb and Glenn McCoy. Ivan Luke will handle the coaching duties behind the bench. The game will be a non-contact, no slap shot affair, and promises to be just fine entertain- ment for the whole family. Pearce Auction- eers hosted Cobourg for the 1st game of the play- offs coming up with a 3-0 win and a shut-out for our super goaltender, Andrew Pereman. Sean McEnaney put Port on the scoreboard in the first period assisted by Chadd Brown. In the second period Michael Williams scored assist- ed by Lindsay Parry and Mike Staniland. In the 3rd period Mike Staniland scored the final goal of the game assisted by Gavin Cochrane. On Sat. March 10 the Auctioneers travelled to Uxbridge for a tourna- ment coming up with a 11-0 win. Jeff Andrews started the scoring in the first period assisted by Chadd Brown. Steven Desautels then scored assisted by Michael Williams. Jeff Andrews scored again assisted by Gavin Cochrane. In the second game, Port met Cobourg going down to defeat at a 3-2 loss. Cobourg opened the scoring in the first period - Duane Empr- ingham scored Port's first goal assisted by Scott Heasman. In the second period, Gavin Cochrane scored an un- assisted goal. Cobourg scored another goal in the second period to tie ti up. With only 2 minutes left in the 3rd, Novice win the opener Cobourg scored their winning goal. The Auctioneers will travel to Cobourg on Monday, March 12 for their 2nd playoff game. On Wed. Tickets are $2.50 for adults with seniors and students free, and there will be door prizes of hockey sticks autograph- ed by the Leafs. Face off is 8:00 p.m. on March 17, so make plans to enjoy what should be a good exhibition of hockey, and support Minor Hockey at the same time. Cobourg will return to Port for the 3rd play off game. On Friday and Saturday March 16th and 17th, the Auction- eers will travel to Plattsville for a 2 day tournament. Stones in final The George Stone boys had two games in the bag when they went on the ice on Monday March 5th. Tottenham came out fighting and had one in the net within 8 seconds of the game. Port took a few minutes to recover but Gerry Douma man- aged to equalize 4 minutes into the game. Early into the second period, Jimmy Vernon put the George Stone boys one up. Tottenham rallied again and the score was 2 each at the end of the second period. Seconds into the third period Tottenham went ahead one minute later Port equalized with a goal from Matt Durward assisted by Brian Appleby and Jimmy Vernon. The pressure was on every- body now to see who could come up with the next goal. Port's Troy McCully managed to squeeze one past the Tottenham goalkeper assisted by Brian Apple- by and Matt Durward. The last ten minutes of the game was a hard fought battle with end to end play But Port man- aged to hold on and came out with a 4-3 victory. Credit has to go to the young Tottenham team who only had eleven men in their team. Port now meets Ernestown in a final best of 5 series for the championship. Good luck boys!
