Port Perry routed the visitors by an 8-2 score fo win the best of final four games to three, It had been down three to one in the series. On Saturday, the team beat Picton 7-2. Beacock's Hardware went down to defeat 2-1 in tl e final to Thornton in the Intermediate Division, and Utica Farm lost a 1-0 heart- breaker to Brookdale in the final of the Elite Division. Some individual players received recog- nition for their efforts over the weekend as Murray Down of Utica Farm was named MVP in the tough Elite Division. Steve Hawes and Tom Wotten of Bea- cock"s were chosen to play for Innisfil who are hosting the provincial playdowns in Barrie March 24. And Cordell Keuning will play for Thornton in the same playdowns. It was a gruelling weekend for Beacock's as they battled for a berth in the final through six games. They got off with a tough loss to Innisfil in game one, going down to defeat 4-3 in overtime as the teams had been locked at two each after regulation, Scoring for Beacock's were G. Toutant, L. Poulin and W. McGuigan. Dave Dalton had two assists with T. Wotten picking up one helper. In game two, Rick McLean turned in a shut-out as Beacocks downed Fraserville 3-0 with goals coming from R. Wagg, L. Poulin and G. Toutant. Beacocks continued to roll with a 4-1 win over Lakeshore as Dave Dalton clicked for two and singles went to S. Hawes and Laval Poulin. ELITES In the Elite division, Utica opened up with a 20 win over Alliston with Don Card getting the shut-out. M. Mitchell and A. Smith counted the goals with Mitchell and Ian Down getting assists. Don Card continued to have a hot hand in the nets in game two as Utica blanked Toronto Grizzlies by the same 2-0 margin with Rob Evans and A. Smith getting the goals. M. Down and K. Fraser were credited with the assists. But it was a different story in game three, as Utica shooters were shut down in a 3-0 loss to Brookdale. Needing a win to reach the final, Utica unleashed the fire power and trounced Oshawa Carlos 5-0, with "Card nailing down his third shut-out of the Murray Down clicked for a piar of goals and an assit, while singles went to M. Mitchell, B. Smith and Ian Down. Rob Evans and Aldon Smith had two assists each in this one. Silver medals for local toms The final game was a closely fought affair with Brookdale emerg- ing as the winners by the slimmest of margins, 1-0, and Utica had to be content with the silver medals. In the Port Perry Broomball loop, playoff action resumes this Sun- day at 4:30 p.m. with Utica staring elimin- ation jn the face as they are down 1-0to C and B in the best of three finals for the league crown. A victory by Utica would force a third and deciding game in this series. On Wednesday March "7 the Malmont Atoms opened their best of 5 series against Uxbridge at home and took the first game 5 to 0. Carey Labuik went the dis- tance between the pipes for the well-deserved shutout. Jason Coch- rane opened the scoring on a high shot from in close with Jason Towns getting an assist on his shot from the point. Jan Heyes then fired three straight goals for a natural hat trick with Dan Sluggett and Scott Menzies figuring in the first one, Scott Menzies and Mark Andrews earning assists on the second and Mark Andrews and Jason tering assists on his third goal while Port was on the power play. Port's final marker was notched by centre Dan Sluggett from his wingers Jan Heyes and Scott On Saturday March 10 the Sportsland Juniors hosted the Lindsay team. There is strong competition between these two teams which are very even in talent and ability, both teams were short players due to vacation time.
