House League results NOVICE Port Perry Printing - 5 David's Hairstyling - 5 This was a see-saw battle right down to the last buzzer as Port Perry Printing and David's Hairstyling ended up in a 5-5 tie. Muskies scoring Jeff Card a hat trick and Keith Haist had 2 goals. Clay Scott, Damien Harrison, Craig Mitchell and Sean Gawley eacl. had an assist. David's scoring Dave Pashley and Toby Schewin 2 goals, 1 assist each and Mike Pothier 1 goal. Don Forder Ins. - 4 Remax Realty - 2 Remax Realty were leading 2-1 but Don Forder scored 3 un- answered goals to make the final 4-2 for Forders. Forders goals Brett Lawson 2 goals, Todd Smart 1 goal, 1 assist, Dale Bradbury 1 goal and Darrin Hope 1 assist. Remax scoring Elton Harmon 1 goal, 1 assist, Ritchie Tripp 1 goal and Scott Wylie 1 assist. Gord Lewis -5 kinsmen -5 Gord Lewis were 2 goals up late in the game but Kinsmen came back to tie the game at 5-5. Kinsmen scoring Marc Porier a hat trick, Rvan Ridgeway 1 goal, 2 assists and Lee Whitter 1 goal. PEE WEE Lions Club - 2 W. Frank - 2 The first game proved to be exciting, and tens- ion filled as W. Frank fought back with late 3rd period goals to tie a fired up Lions team. With the game tied and less than 5 minutes re- maining both teams had great scoring chances, but determined goal- tenders fought hard to 'preserve the tie. Mike Haines did the damage for the Lions as he scored both goals with an assist going to Marvin Hughes. For Frank's it was John Andrews with the sharp eye as he notched both goals with assists going to Chris Carr and Mike Griffin. Wes Lane - 7 Scala Bros. - 5 It seemed the Lane boys might walk all over the Scala team, as they took a commanding 4-0 lead early in the game, but Scala fought back time and time again to keep within two goals. Unfortunately for Scala the clock was against them as they ran out of time in their bid to tie the game. Scoring for Lane's, Peter Brock 2 goals, 1 assist; Herb Hatch 2 goals; Mike Butt 1 goal, 3 assists; Kevin Mantell 1 goal, 1 assist and Paul Turner 1 goal; Scott White had 2 assists and David Leroy picked up 1 assist. Ed Toffin was the big gun for Scala with 3 goals and 1 assist. Shawn Phillips chipped in with a pair of goals and an assist with single assists going to Cole Perry and Adam Danter. BANTAM IGA-5 CONSUMERS GAS -0 It took awhile, but the Bantam house league games came to an end on Saturday morning with some spirited play between the teams, and now the playoffs start next week. You can always count on Bill Brown's IGA team to come up with something, such as an unceremonious batch of grinders to subdue an opponents in a bellicose style of hockey. Check, check an skate an shoct hard, and that's the answer"? Losing the last three games by 1-0 scores, the IGA bundle carriers played it a little differ- ent on Saturday. February 28, 1984 -- 23 No trouble knocking off the Muskies For the first time since they came into the league six years ago, the Little Britain Mer- chaiits have advanced . to the finals in the ~ Central Ontario Junior C loop. The Merchants will - meet Bowmanville Eagles in the best: of seven final with game one slated for tonight (February 28) in Bow- manviile Arena with face off at 8:15 P.M. The Merchants, under coach Keith Archer earned a berth in the finals when they defeat- ed the Lindsay Muskies Friday night 5-3 to win the semi-final series four games to one. That game featured a wild last few minutes as the Merchants led 4-2 and then scored an empty net goal followed by another Lindsay goal with 17 seconds left to make the final 5-3. The Eagles, who fin- ished first overall in regular season play dis- patched the Lakefield Chiefs four games to two with an overtime 5-4 victory in Lakefield' Sunday night. The Darren Frank with three goals lead the way for IGA while Willy King and John Sturman added singles. Joe Forder helped out in big way adding four assists while King picked up two. Final IGA 5-0. Cochrane's Trotters - 4 Emmerson's Ins. -3 The Insurer's got on the scoreboard first on Jason Petrie's goal, Irvine assisted. Then the Trotters answered with two goals of their own tying the game at 1-1. Mark Elliott scoring with Derek Slack adding the assist. In the second period Elliott scored his second goal giving the Trotters the lead 2-1 after two periods of play, Chris Watson assisting. The rest of the period was end to end play. The third period start- ed off much the same as the second ended. Eric Grosvenor scored his first goal in bantam play with Irvine assist- ing. Then the Cochrane Trotters got going them- selves on Jeff Crone's goal - no help, then Flip McBride scored on a pass from Collins, mak- ing it 4-2 Trotters. Then Emmersons poured it on and came close on many chances before Ian Smith scored with David Irvine's third assist today. Next week Sat. March 3 - Series (A) Best of 2 of 3 - 9 am. Chiefs had thrown a scare into the Eagles by winning the - first two games of the semi-final only to have Bowman- ville sweep four straight games. Little Britain, which has been dubbed by some "those amazing Merchants," has played very strong hockey since Christmas and effectively shut down the powerful Lindsay squad with strong fore- checking and fine goal- tending. Going into the final Merchants in Jr. C finals against the Eagles, the Merchants are healthy and likely will continue to employ the strong checking game which has carried them this far. Game two in the series is slated for this Saturday evening in Little Britain with face off at 8:00 P.M. Game three will be back in Bowmanville at 7:30 Sunday night and game four will be in Little Britain Wednesday night (March 7) at 8:30. The series is expected to be a good one and the Little Britain Arena will have an additional 250 bleacher-type seats added for the games. With the Lindsay Muskies out of the play- off picture, all games in the Little Britain- Bowmanville series will be carried live on Lind- say radio CKLY, 910 on the dial. ~The winner of the series will advance to the next round against a Junior C team from eastern Ontario. Atom sharp shooter On Friday Feb. 24 the . Malmont Farms Atoms hosted Pickering Village Atoms in their second game of the playoffs between the two teams and Port won 10 to 0. The highlights of the night was Jan Heyes . notching a hat trick that got him his 50th goal this season. Good work Jan keep it up. Honourable mention should go to the wingers who volunteer- ed to sit out a couple of shifts so Jan could get his 50th in front of the home town fans. Carey Labuik and Shawn Larocque shared the shut out in net. 3-3 TIE On Monday Feb. 20 the Malmont Farms Atoms continued into their playoff round with a road game in Ux- bridge that ended in a 3 to 3 draw. The kids came out flat after their big tournament victory and Uxbridge wasn't long taking advantage. Uxbridge got on the board first and carried their one goal lead into the third period before Mike Feasby tied it up from Jan Heyes. Port then jumped out 2 to 1 when Mark Andrews scored unassisted. Ux- bridge then got two of gets 50th of the year their own to go ahead 3 to 2 but Mike Feasby made a nice end to end rush and fired a high shot into the net and thats how it ended 3 all. On Thursday Feb. 21 the Malmont Atoms con-- tinued their playoff for- mat when they travelled to Port Hope and came away 3 to 1 victors. Jan Heyes had all three goals for Port Perry with two coming off the power play and the third when he stepped out of the penalty and was gone on a breakaway from centre ice. Assist- ing on Jan's first goal was Mark Andrews on the second goal it was Mike Feasby and Mark assisted on Jan's third goal as well which clinched the victory. The team was deservant of this victory with a much better perform- ance over last nights game in Uxbridge. The team is now undefeated inits last 7 games with 6 wins and a tie. Bantam A's run into tough club The Port Bantam A's played a poor game on Wednesday Feb. 22 against Bowmanville losing 10-3. Bowmanville controll- ed most of the game except for sudden spurts by the Bantams. Bow- manville opened the scoring with the first two goals, then Port got one from Rob Baker assisted by Dave Burn- ett. Bowmanville scored three more times before Port got another one. It was Rob Baker's second of the night assisted by Dave Burnett and Bob Goble. Bowmanville scored four more. Rob Baker did all the scoring by finishing off his hat trick assisted by Chris Skura and Greg Staple- ton. Bowmanville rounded out the scoring with two more so the final score was 10-3. A especially good game from Steve Durham. Bill Eade played well between the pipes. PLAYOFFS Sunday Feb. 26 the Goreski Bantams went down to defeat in their first playoff game against Picton losing by a score of 6-2. Picton scored the first goal early in the second period with Port tying it up on a goal scored by Rob Baker, assisted by Dave Burnett and Bob Goble. Picton again took the lead. Rob Baker scored from Steve Dur- ham and Dave Burnett to tie the score 2-2. Picton then took over scoring 4 more goals on goalie Kevin Cearns. The next game will be in Wellington on Tues- day night at 8:30. Come out and support the Ban- tams at their next home game, Sunday night at 7:30.
