This was a new exper- ience for the girls as they played outdoors on the natural ice surface of the Rideau Canal. We played a total of 3 games over the week- end. The first game against Cambridge was a real nail biter. Cam- ridge attacked at the first of the game keep- ing the ring in our end for the first 2 or 3 min- utes. Due to the Perry. excellent goaltending of Terry Childs, Cam- bridge did not score. During 2 out of 8 power play opportun- ities the Port Perry girls scored. Once again the defence of Anne Finch, Cindy Harris, Jessica Fluke and Valerie White played very well at blocking shots and clearing the ring from the defensive zone. The final score Port Perry 3, Cambridge 2. The second game was much different. We lost to Ottawa 11-6. This was an early morning game Atoms fired up for 8-5 victory On Friday Feb. 17 the Malmont Atoms got off to a busy weekend with an 8-5 victory over the Oshawa Little N.H.L. Hawks. The boys were primed for this one and came out fired up. Jody Logan got the show on the road with his first of two real nice goals plus 'an assist. Mark Andrews notched 2 breakaway goals plus 2 big goals and an assist. Jan Heyes chalked up a nice goal when he pulled away from the defender with his speed and scored on a deke move and also pulled up an assist. Pearce Auctioneers hosted Uxbridge for a Play-off game coming up with a 5-1 win. Two minutes into the first period Duane Empring- ham opened the scoring with the assist being credited to Chad Gar- vock. Gavin Cochrane scored the next goal on a breakaway unassisted. Uxbridge then got their only goal of the game. In the second period Sean McEnaney scored assisted by Gavin Coch- rane and Chadd Brown. Jeff Andrews scored the next assisted by Gavin Cochrane. Duane Empringham scored the final goal of the game assisted by Gavin Cochrane. Our goal- tender Andrew Pere- man stood solidly between the pipes. On Sunday, Feb. 19 they travelled to Oshawa for an exhibi- tion game against the Oshawa Black Hawks going down to defeat at a 4-3 loss. Gavin Coch- rane put Port on the score board in the first period with the assist Pee Wee House League W.Frank-8 Scala-0 W. Frank totally dom- inated Saturdays first game by defeating Scala Bros. by an 8 to 0 score. Scala Bros. just couldn't get their act together throughout the game. With the season winding down, Scala will have to re-group and get ready for play- offs. Frank's on the other hand seem to have their act totally together and are playing excell- ent team hockey.
