February 14, 1984 -- 21 House League Hockey results and Scott Airey. Assists went to Phil Edgar (2), Steven Slade and Kevin Brown. UAW-3 Lake Scugog Lumber - 0 Another shutout for Brian Madill, a young man who stops pucks no matter where they come from. And a great defen- sive effort by Dave Vol- man and Chris Forder. This victory saw UAW move into first place with 1 week to go in the schedule and the games on Feb. 25 will be of great interest as Tripp and UAW go for No.l. Scoring for UAW were Chris Forder, John Woodward and Jason McBride. Picking up assists were Chris Forder, Steve Slade and Jason McBride. Swamp Garage - 3 Marj Tripp - 2 + This was one of the best games of the season and Swamp showed that they are leading into the playoffs as a team to be reckon- ed with by knocking Tripp out of first place. Goaltender Craig Leask was impressive in goal for Swamp. All 3 goals for Swamp were scored by Mark Shepperd, with assists going to Tuan Connell and Rick Staple- ton. For Tripp John Collins scored twice and Cliff Lefort earned an assist. PEE WEE Wes Lane - 4 W.Frank-1 Saturday's 1st game saw a short staffed Lane team defeat W. Frank by a 4 to 1 score. It was end to end action throughout all three 'periods with these two teams as they both seem to play the same style. Good goaltending by Lane's Herb Hatch and good defensive play in front of the net was the difference in this game. Frank, with the extra bench strength tried to wear down their opponents, but to no avail. Doing the scgring for Wes Lane wa® Mike Butt with 2 goals, Paul Turner with a pair and Scott White, Vince Cris- cione and Gord Ireland each picking up an assist. Lions Club - 8 Scala Bros. - 5 Saturday's second game proved to be a shootout with Lions coming out on top of a 8 to 5 score over Scala. Defensive play did not seem to be part of the game plan for either team as the shooters for both teams were allow- ed to free wheel and find their marks. Top marksman for the Lions Club was Adam Cummings with 3 goals and 3 assists; followed by Steve Diceman with 3 goals and 1 assist. Also having a strong game was Jamie Mabley with 1 goal and 4 assists and Marvin Hughes scoring a single. Graham Sull- ivan proved to be the big gun for Scala scoring a hat trick, with Shawn Phillips notching a pair. Picking up assists were Ed Toffin with 2, Paul Kett 1, and Phillips with 1. Please take note of the game times for this Sat- urday (Feb. 18). W. Frank vs. Scala Bros. at 7:00 A.M.; Wes Lane bs. Lions Club at 6:30 P.M. BANTAM Emmerson"s Ins. -3 Consumers Gas - 2 Sometimes it seems at times Emmerson Insurance hockey club is on the bottom half in losing then winning, but give them a win, when they need it most, they go right into third place in the standings, with an exciting win over Con- sumers Gas, a 3-2 score. The Gas Works got on the score sheet first, with five minutes re- maining to play in the second period. After both teams played a horse in the barn type hockey - close checking and some good goal- tending at both ends of the rink - left both teams at bay, wondering what they had to do to score. But the Gas Works got things going when Cary Dowson scored from Joe Hamilton. David Irvine scored to tie the game up at 1-1 before the second period ended. Chris Logan picked up the assist. Irvine put the Insurers ahead with his second goal of the day. Then early in the third period, the Consumers with dear olde Freddie back from Texas tied the game at 2-2. When Adam Danter up from the pee wee league scored with help from Hamilton and Dowson. With just three minutes left to play Jason Petrie on a long pass from Irvine, scored to give Emmerson a 3-2 win and lifted them past IGA into third place for the first time this year. Cochrane Trotters - 1 IGA -0 Rick King, the goal- tender for the IGA team who is playing some terrific hockey, must wonder what they have to do to win. For the third straight time, a loss by a 1-0 score. Both of these two teams played outstand- ing hockey for two and a half periods, for that matter the whole game. It was half way through the first period when Venning scored the lone goal that gave the Trotters the win. I do believe that both teams are gearing for the playoffs. Both Rick King of the IGA and Darren Fulford of Cochranes stoned the opposition, with saves that startled some fans, parents and others as well - "Me for one'. Both these games were decided by one goal today - and if I was looking for a goaltender for next year, I'd look no farther than the Bantam house league. Some of these kids are 0.K. There is no hockey next week Lecause of the Atom Tournament. FIRST YEAR TYKES by Hillis Wilbur The little guys have been progressing quite well under Barry Oke's program as of now they have the ice split in two and after their drills they are having games of scrimmage which makes them feel as if they are in the big times I have been putting in all the boys names for improved players all year and we are down to the last 2 boys and they are Daryl Bourgeois and Alan Vanderlaan: from Scugog Overhead Doors.
