February 14, 1984 rts Utica Farm Equipment posted a 5-0 victory Sunday fo clinch first place in the Port Perry Broomball League and won a irip fo the Regional finals in the Elite Divi- sion early next month. The Utica win de-throned per- renial league champions C and B for the first time in six with 10-1 victory On Friday, Feb. 10, 1984 the Malmont Farms Atoms broke a 2 game losing streak by defeating Uxbridge Atoms 10 to 1 in Port's second game of their round robin playoff set up, which was played at home in Port Perry. The Port Atoms played a good two way skating game and the kids made a lot of fine pass plays which accounted for the ten goals. Scoring went as follows: Dan Sluggett at centre with 4 assists, Jan Heyes on left wing with 3 goals and 1 assist; Scott Menzies on right wing with 1 goal and 3 assists; Mark Andrews at centre with 2 goals and 1 "assist, Greg Fitzgerald at right wing with 1 goal and 2 assists; Jason Cochrane at centre wtih 2 goals and 1 assist; Brad Moase at left wing with 1 goal and 2 assists; Jeff Parry at right wing with 2 assists; Mike Feasby on the point with 2 assists and Steve Laird also on defence with 1 assist. Goaltending was shared by Carey Labiuk and Shawn Larocque and Uxbridge's lone goal was a short handed effort that caught Port napping. Honourable mention to Jody Logan, Brett Puckrin and Steve Staniland for a good job done. The boys were rewarded for their efforts with a round of pop by Neil Malcolm that was much apprec- iated. 3-2 Loss On Monday, Feb. 6, 1964 the Malmont Farms Atoms travelled to Oshawa for an exhib- ition match against the Little N.H.L. Hawks and were defeated 3 to 2 by Oshawa. Port had many scoring chances but were stoned by hot goal- tending in the Oshawa net. Oshawa got on the board first but by the end of the first period, Port had tied it up when Mark Andrews fired home his fiftieth goal of this season after being set up by his winer Jody Logan and Greg Fitz- gerald. Congratulations Mark, keep up the good work. There was no scoring in the second until Oshawa got 2 goals early in the third to take the 3 to 1 lead. Dan Sluggett got a nice short handed goal with 2 minutes left in the game but that ended the scor- ing. Danny's goal was assisted by Captain Mike Feasby. » years. They did it with a) sound team effort this past Sunday as they dumped Beacock's by a 5-0 score. It took just a minute and a half for Keith Ellicott to set up Ian Down for the lead. Beacocks tried to get it even on an effort by Ron Wagg, but he just could not get it past Don Card in the Utica nets. Early in the season Mike Mitchell got his first of three assisted by Aldon Smith. The final period saw Utica pour it on as Tom Carroll notched one on a solo effort before Mitchell got his final two from Smith and Carroll. The team will now represent the league at the elite level of the Regionals in Lefroy March 9th week- end. In the game prior Emmerson's downed Brian's by a 7-3 tally. They took a 3-0 lead into the second period on goals by Bill Gerber we Eh 2 '\ left: Rick McLean, Cordell Keuning, Ron Wagg, Ron Short, from Charlie Dennis, Dennis unassisted and Tim Dennis from Ken Little. Brian's got one back off the broom of Joe Defillipis. Emmer- son's then struck for another three straight by C. Dennis from Art Matthews, Little from B. Gerber and Les Allen from C. Dennis. John Gerber unassisted got their final tally. The last two Brian's markers came off the brooms of Dermot Doyle from Defillipis, and Ken St. Amant from Doyle. This coming Sunday the first round of play offs start with C&B host- ing Beacocks at 4:00 and Utica matching up with Emmersons at 5:00. Port Perry was well represented at the Col- bourne tournament on Saturday as Oddfellows and Emmersons went head to head for the "B"' division championship with Emmersons emerging as the victors. Earlier Beacocks had been knocked out in overtime in their second game of the "A" side. Steve Hawes, Gord Bryans, Wayne McGuigan, Gary Toutant. (Absent from photo is Phil Archer) Pee Wee A's have a lock on the playoffs The Legion PeeWee A's have won three straight games and Ux- bridge now have their backs to the wall, as they face possible elimination from playoff action. Sunday, Feb. 5th on "home ice, it was a slow and scrambly first SE TT EL period, with both teams managing to score twice. The Legionaires were first on the scoreboard at the 13:04 mark; Clair Cornish doing some fan- cy manoeuvring from the blueline tucked one behind Magee. Uxbridge scored their first goal on a power play, they jumped into a 2-1 lead on- ly 1:17 later. With one se- cond remaining in the period Jarett Harman popped in the tying goal from Clair Cornish. Port controlled the next two periods - they kept Ux- bridge off the scoreboard but also increased their lead by three. The line of Sorley, Rodway and Leatherdale connected for two of these goals, as they controlled the play in Uxbridge end. At the 12:22 mark, Mike Sorley tipped in the first goal on a shot from Chris Legere at the blueline with Leatherdale working the corner, 1:10 later, Jeff Mills picked up a re- bound from Derek Fit- zgerald with Legere also assisting. Only 48 seconds re- mained in the third when Jon David Rodway made it 5-2 on a passing play from Sorley and Leather- dale. Chris McConnell played another strong game between the pipes. The second game was played on Monday, Feb. 6th in Uxbridge, as in the previous game neither team seemed able to get rolling in the first period.
