October 25, 1983 -- 17 Getting turkey supper ready Seagrave and Area News by Marilyn Beacock By this time next week our little village will be a bustling beehive of ac- tivity as we begin our an- nual preparation for the turkey supper -which is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2nd. Starting at 4 p.m. you can enjoy a sumptuous turkey dinner complete with a steaming hot bowl of plum pudding and just in case your feel that you haven't accumulated quite enough calories yet, you could always sample a slice or two of the delectable variety of homemade pies that will be available to tempt you. If the thought of all this doesn't get your taste buds in gear, I sure don't know what would! Hope to see you on Nov. 2nd! Last Monday evening our Good Neighbours gals met at the home of Mrs. Liz Smith for our October meeting. Following some discus- sion on an upcoming catering commitment we were delighted to have as our guest speaker, Mrs. Rose Labieuk who is residing in the former Howell home, demonstrate to us the art of flower arranging much to the enjoyment of all present. Thanks Rose and Liz for a wonderful and informative evening! The Mariposa Ladies Group held their monthly meeting at the home of Kim Blakely on October 12. They were pleased to welcome a represen- tative from Personal Touch in Port Perry demonstrate to them the art of flower arranging. Their next meeting which will be held on Nov. 16th will feature a make-up demonstration sponsored by Karen Taylor Cosmetics in Port Perry. The flowers in the Sanctuary this morning were placed there follow-, ing the funeral of the late Treeva Steeves by close friends, Ivan and Marion Barrett. We very much appreciate their kind- ness and we extend our deepest sympathy to the families concerned. Our lone birthday box depositor this week was Ken Sturman. Our annual night out is scheduled for Wednes- day, November 30th and the dinner will be served at approximately 6:30 p.m. The committee has already been hard at it preparing an evening of smiles and chuckles for all of us. We are to assemble at the Water- - mill Restaurant and I have been asked by the committee to request that each lady attending please notify Kathy Hatch before Friday, November 18th so that the restaurant staff will have an approximate idea of how many per- sons to prepare for. Also -- it would be ap- preciated if you could have the proper change available that night. Last Wednesday, Lillian and Roy Smith returned from the "Emerald Isle' of Cape Breton after a two-week visit in which the highlight of their trip was to see their "unclaimed treasure" daughter Wen- dy, married on Saturday, October 8th. The lucky laddy was John Alex- ander Matheson of Sidney N.S. Congratula- tions and our best wishes to this happy couple! Last Sunday Don and I and our three sons en- joyed having dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Vern Beacock and family of Elmvale, and later in the evening popped in for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Rodd of Minesing. Don and Stella Asling took Stella's sister Hilda who is visiting from Saskatchewan to visit sister Elsie Gorrill of Lindsay and also visited brother, Arthur Ryall. Ross and Barbara Evans and Wendy were supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Disney of Lindsay on Sun. On Fri. Oct. 28 from 7 to 8:30 there will be a Sunday School Hall- oween party for the Epsom-Utica children. Come in costume. It would be appreciated if the mothers sent some cup cakes. Visitors with Dr. McKay recently were Mrs. Ester Young of Nelson, B.C. also cousins Dr. Lewis and Mrs. Gishler of Muncie, Ind. tober 23. This grand old lady certainly seems like quite a treasure as she supplied the entertain- ment for her own party * by delighting her guests with favourite old tunes that she played on her harmonica.
