Everyone broke into song The October meeting of Greenbank United Church Women, Fidelis Unit, was held at the church on Wednesday evening, October 5th. Dot Hooker opened the meeting by reading a short verse on the theme "Thanksgiving", and everyone joined in sing- ing of the hymn, "Happy the Home When God Is There". Carole Cordner read a poem, "The Thoughtful Are Thankful", followed by the scripture reading from Psalm 34, verses 1-10 by Marie Foster. Jean Kerry led in prayer and the worship service ended by the singing of the hymn, 'Lead On, O King Eternal", with Betty McGee accompanying at the piano. President, Mary Jean Till then took the chair to preside over the business meeting, read- ing a poem, "'A Thought For Thanksgiving"', and welcoming the larger than usual crowd which included a number of visitors. Secretary Barb Ward read the minutes of the September meet- ing and the correspond- ence which included an invitation to a special meeting at Nestleton on Thursday, November 20th. A letter from Sir Sandford Fleming College reminded us that films about Third World problems were available on request for UCW meetings. A letter of application is avail- able to anyone wishing to participate in a music workship featuring the "Medical Mission Sisters" on November 5 and 6 at Northminster Church, Peterborough. Treasurer, Marie Foster gave the report which again showed a healthy balance on hand. We were reminded of several catering dates, October 30th for the Lindsay Presbytery; -and November 3rd for the Ploughmen's Assoc- iation and the service of song, featuring the Wright Singers on Sun- day evening, October 30th at 7:30 p.m. The meeting conclud- ed with the enjoyment of lunch served by the October group. A large amount of people re- mained for the enjoy- able and relaxing work- shop on Cornhusk dolls led by Jackie James. A draw was held on this pump- kin and it was won by To Overgoor. Our Sept. 23rd autumn bus tour was cancelled due to the leaves not changing, but we are now going on the 14th of October and as this article is being written ahead of the trip, I can truthfully say from other trips I have been on, it will be a most enjoyable and fun day. There is another bus trip in the future, and those of you who didn't make the trip on the 14th, now have lots of time to plan for an all-day excursion to the Royal Winter Fair on Wednesday, November 16th. We will leave Nestleton at 9:30 a.m. with stops at Port Perry and Manchester. Cost of the return bus fare will be $6.00. Bookings can be made now with Shirley Love at 986-5330 or at our November 1st meet- ing. This meeting will consist of a workshop on Pine Cone Decorations + conducted by Pat Ker- ford. ' We have a new service available for our members who for one reason or another cannot attend church on Sunday mornings and that is a tape of the sermons. Kay McPhaden is co- ordinating the use of the tapes and player, so, if you would like to use this service, give her a call at 985-2341.
