The Green Machine, as the team is known, romped through the season with just three defeats in 55 games, . The Green Machines defeated Uxbridge in three straight games and then went on to defeat Ernestown in three straight. After the Ernestown series the boys played a best out of five series against Campbellford. Four games were played in the series with the Green Machines earn- ing themselves the title of champions. The first game against Campbellford was played in Port on March 23. The Green Machines won by a score of 6-4. The first period re- mained scoreless but both teams scored three goals during the second. Campbellford was first on the scoreboard at the 8:56 mark. A super passing play from Jeff Mills and Chris Legere resulted in Jarret Har- mon scoring to tie the game. Less than a min- ute later, Campbellford scored, taking a one goal lead. Two minutes later defenseman, Sean Bradbury passed the puck to Clair Cornish who scored Port's second goal. Less than a minute later Clair Cor- nish scored again giving 'Port the lead for the first time. Chris Legere and Mark Andrews earned the assists on goal number 3. Camp-- bellford did not let the Green Machines keep the lead for very lone as they scored to end the period in a 3-3 draw. Clair Cornish scored Port's fourth goal early in the 3rd period once again giving Port a one goal lead. The Green Machines kept their lead for nearly four min- utes when Campbeliford scored to tie the game. With just over a minute left to play in the game, Jarret Harmon scored two beautiful goals to end the game 6-4 for presented with the trophy by Tom Keeble, Port. Goal number 3 was scored at the 8:27 mark by Clair Cornish assisted by Jarret Harmon and Jeff Mills resulted in goal number four scored by Eric Grosvenor. Camp- bellford scored. two goals in the last four minutes of play ending the 2nd period 4-2 for Port. The third period proved to be just as exciting as the first two. This game was the first loss - for Port during the play- off series. The final Score was 4-3 for Camp- bellford. ' The first period ended in a tie as both teams The Green Machines scored first on a goal by Jarret Harmon at the 4:07 mark. Gregg Fitzgerald earned the assist. Campbellford tied the score two minutes later. The only goal of the second period was scored by Campbell- ford. Both teams came out flying in the third period but halfway through the period Campbellford was leading 4-1. The Green Machines did not give up for a second. The score became 4-2 at the 8:51 mark on a super goal by Clair Cornish. Two minutes later a super passing play from Clair Cornish and Jarret Harmon resulted in a goal by Jeff Mills. The score remained 4-3 for Campbellford. The fourth game of the series wag played on March 30 with the Mal- mont Farm Atoms play- ing host to Campbell ford. An unassisted goal by Clair Cornish gave Port a 1-0 lead which they held. onto till there was only seconds left in the 1st period. Both teams played well during the second period. Caipbellford was unable to get the puck in the net as Ryan- LaRocca kept coming up with some key saves. Clair Cornish scored Port's second goal at the 7:26 mark. Defensemen, Danny Maw and Chris Legere were credited with the assists. Jarret Harmon gave Port a 3-1 lead at the 5:54 mark on a goal assisted by Clair Cornish. Campbellford scored first in the 3rd period. The score remained 3-2 up until the last minute of play. This put a lot of pressure on both teams and made it very excit- ing for the fans. De- fensemen Chris Legere eased the pressure for everyone as one of his famous slap-shots ended up in the net. Danny on-Port's 4th goal. With only 42 seconds left in the game, Campbellford took out their goalie and Port had a man in the penalty box. The forty- two seconds seem to go on forever but finally the buzzer rang and with a final score of 4-2 the Malmont Farm Atoms had won the Eastern Ontario Championship. Pee Wee A's in a very tough series After two week-end loses against" The Six Nations team, The Legion Pee Wee A's find themselves with their backs to the wall. Friday night in Port Perry our hometown team were outshot 39-19, Stacey Ballingall played an outstanding game in net or the score would have been much higher than 8-3. Up until the completion of the second period it was a close scoring match, but Six Nations accumulat- ed four goals in the third 'putting the game out of _reach. The opposition opened - the scoring at the 12:12 mark, a power play by Mark Barkey on a pass- ing play from Brad Menzies and Warren Geer had' the score evened at one apiece. Brad Menzies and Brad Traves combined on the next power play less than two minutes later to give Port a 2-1 lead, this held until the final three seconds when Six Nations tied the game by 2 all. Six Nations added two more in the second but a power play goal by Brad Traves from Brad Menzies had -our' Pee Wees trailing only by one at the completion of the period. Six Nations added four more goals in the third, ending a some- what frustrating 8-3 loss -for Port Perry. Having had a most successful year with their own style of play, our Legion Pee Wee A's knew they would have to make some changes if they were to compete with this strong Six Nations team. In Ohsweken on Sun- day with the supporters on the edge of their seats, it was no disgrace for our hometown club to drop a 7-6 loss. It had to be one of the most exciting and well played matches we have seen. Stacey with a hot glove hand played a phen- omenal game between the pipes. i Six Nations had a 2-0 lead halfway through the first, but a well ex- ecuted passing play from Robbie Brown to Mark Barkey had our club trailing by one, Six - Nations made it 3-1 with two minutes remaining. Port again found them- selves down by three when Six Nations scored with only 56 seconds played into the second. Two goals, the first by Brad Menzies unassist- ed on a power play and the second by Warren Geer assisted by Brad Menzies while playing short-handed ended the period 6-4. A power play resulted in a goal for Mark Barkey assisted by Brad Traves and had Port threatening early in the third, four min- utes later with wide open hockey Six Nations -again jumped into a 7-5 lead, but never saying die, Scott Feasby sent home a beautiful goal from just inside the blueline with the assist going to Brad Menzies. Port was unable to cap- italize on a two man advantage in the dying seconds. Our next game will be Tuesday night in Ohsweken at 8 o'clock, then Wednesday night in .
