On Saturday, Feb- urary 26th, 1983 the Port Perry High School Jazz Choir and Intrusion Band attended the Regional finals in Peterborough. The com- petitions were held in Adam-Scott College. "Intrusion" had tough competition but pulled through taking first place and receiving an invitation to the Nation- al Competitions. The Jazz Choir (Jazz- ermize) also took first place and also received an invitation to the Nationals. The Nation- als are to be held in Calgary from May 16 to Escapes Serious Injury A 50 year old Oshawa man escaped serious injury when his late model Ford pick- up truck went out of control on the Scugog Island Road and rolled over in the ditch. White, Music Director at Port Perry High School. Average mark for Jazz choir was 86 percent and the Intrusion was 86.5 per- cent. Not bad for their second year. Mr. C. White started his music career at Port Perry High School just this past September, and so far the year has been great. However, there are some hefty expenditures facing the municipality in 1983 including the $90,000 purchase of a site _on Regional Road 8 for a new "works depot; the $50,000 'er so for street --lighting and sidewalk construction of Highway 7A Port Perry and the $55,000 commit- ment to the Hospital ex- pansion program ($29,000 of this amount will come from 1983 taxes, the remainder from the already established municipal projects fund). The Region is facing a major financial increase in Social Services spen- ding brought on mainly by the unprecedented in- crease in welfare reci- pients.
