Add to that her warm com- ments regarding the Hall that there are 'very few halls like this left..a very musical place to perform...a lot of things have happened in this room" and audience rapport was secured. In true club style, Lander proceeded to work her audience through an electric repertoire, from her own bluesy '"The Man in The Tie", born of an unhappy period in her own life, to the romping hillbilly "standing in Poughkeepsie" (Yes, Virginia, there really is a Poughkeepsie). She was joined by Hardy in an emotional, moving version of their '"'Children of the Dream', a song which has been deemed "too intelligent" by some, but which displayed a gorgeous amalgam of talent here. Hardy continued the programme with more feathery piano, love songs graceful as a spring snowfall, deli- cate as moonbeams tracing a Haliburton Lake. Definitely candle- light and champagne mood music. Sounds which Hardy claimed in his ongoing patter would "haunt this building' followed as he vocalized his album song "stay for Awhile". Although no vocalist,. Hardy produced a listenable, likeable rhythm and bluesy, even sensuous, number, with his backup music- ians enriching those "'sounds". The performance was then climaxed with Hardy soloing on his seem to be liquid plat- inum--priceless notes, and a labour of love. The audience burst into spontaneous applause. No show would be complete without an encore and Hardy did not disappoint when the whole group combined on Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind", a wide-ranging number which displayed the seemingly effortless professionalism of the performers. Great stuff, that. There is absolutely no doubt that '"'a lot of things have happened in "this room". Thanks, group, for being one of the greater 'things'.
