Sat- urday morning Port Perry met Beaverton in a game that was also counted as a league game. The Stones won the game with a 4-2 score. Port Perry who was very sluggish, was fortunate to win the game 4-2. Beaver- ton showed up with only 8 players and fortunately for Port, were tiring by the third period. Beaverton opened the scoring and held the lead unitl 3:13 of the opening frame when Gibson scored for Port Perry. Robbie Jamieson shot the puck into the corner in Beaverton's zone. Jamie Menzies made a perfect pass onto Kevin's stick in front of the net and Gibson sent it home. At this point, the Stones play picked up but there were no more goals until 6:24 of the second when Keith Roberge who had a good game, gave Port the lead. The goal resulted from a lot of hustle in the corner. Jimmy Vernon and Derek Fitzgerald picked up the assists. Manchester area news by Viola Johnson The first meeting of the Manchester 4H Home Making Club, Ontario Heritage will be Monday, Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in the United Church basement. The Community Hall Annual Meeting was as usual advertised last week in Coming Events in the Port Perry Star on Thursday, Jan. 27, 8 p.m. The Man- chester Community Centre corner and a Beaverton player left alone in front of the net, Beaverton tied the score at 2-2. At this point, Beaverton's play became very chippy. With ten seconds left in the second period, after sustained pressure in front of the Beaverton net, Port Perry went ahead. Derek Fitz- gerald picked up the goal with Keith Roberge and Jimmy Vernon getting the assists. In the third period, Tim Allsopp made a pretty pass to Ian Smith who got Port's fourth goal. Port needed the goal as they were not playing aggressive hockey at all. Players were trying to do it on their own and as witness- ed in past games, the Stones can't win hockey games without team effort. Port Perry also picked up two penalties in the closing min- utes of the game and with 44 seconds left found them- selves two men short. For- tunately for Port, Beaver- ton's power play was lacking punch and the Stones penalty killing came through without Beaverton scoring. The second game for the Stones was supposed to take flock to our CA ah Only $1.00 "Winter" Sale BUY 1 PIECE - GET ANOTHER FOR ONLY Hall at one time was called the Reach Township Hall. We appreciate the events and meetings that the organizations of young people have been having each week along with their leaders. We now need more workers of adults to help for inden place at 8:00 Sunday morning but the boys didn't get on the ice until 9:00. Their opposition was a team from Aurora. Port came out at the short end of a 2-1 score in a game they deserved to win. They outplayed and out- shot the opposition but could not put it in the net. Port's only goal came from Jamie Menzies who Stones. Mike Toye who also worked hard for Port picked up the assist. Unfortunately Port came up against a whistle happy referee in this game who was either giving out penalties or giving out advice every time either team looked at each other. Port's penalties hurt more than Aurora's did and that seemed to be the story between two evenly matched teams. Even though Port lost the boys came up with the kind of hard-working team effort that sends their fans home pleased. Good work Stones!
