In 1941 the school was painted by Ed Balfour at a cost of $28.00. In September 1942, shingles were bought from Reesor Lumber for $54.45; nails and screws were purchased from Carnegie Hardware for $3.65. Bert Dennison shingled the scheol for $27.00. In 1945 the School Board wished to imstall hydro but was refused permission from school inspector, Mr. A. Ar- chibald. George Kilpatrick wrote the Hon. George Drew and as a result Mr. Archibald changed his mind and permis- _ sion was granted. The ratepayers were will- ing to pay for the installation if a government grant wasn't paid. During the 1940s, money raised at a Christmas concert was used to purchase a piano and curtains for the stage. In 1951, the section joined the area school board. The last trustees were- Geo. Kilpatrick, Richard Spencer and Russell Corner. In June 1958, the school was closed and the children were taken by bus to Prince Albert. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Cumm- ings visited John, Darlene, and son Hob Lewis of Oshawa Saturday evening. Sunday evening Mr. and Mrs. Joha Lewis and Rob also Jim and Mary Tremblay visited Bruce and Shirley Cummings. Richard Larocque Jr. visited Thursday evening with the Tremblays. Ashburn news by Mrs. E. Heron Our sincere sympathy is ex- tended to Mrs. Ruby Bryant and her family in the loss of a beloved husband and father and grandfather, who died last Thursday in Port Perry Hospital. Ted and Ruby farm- ed a mile north of the village for many years before they retired and moved to Port Perry. Ted had many friends and he will be missed. Our sympathy also extend- ed to the Oliver family in the passing of Mr. Donald Bovie. The Kirk guild sponsored a coffee hour and film time in the church hall on Tuesday of last week. The film was call- ed "Loved, Honoured and Abused." Miss Nancy Merideth of Whitby led a discussion and learning period, which left us all with the feeling of how much the world needs love and kindness. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. E, Humphrey K who became grandparents again on January 15th. Little Dana Catherine Humphrey is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Humphrey of Calgary, Alberta. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Daw visited with their son James and Diane and family last Sunday. It was the occasion of Matthews fifth birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McAndless of Don Mills spent last Saturday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Heron. Two beautiful floral tributes were placed at the front of the Burns Church last Sunday morning in memory of the late Ted Bryant who was an actfve member in the church for many years. Rev. McEntyre's message was 'A Church - God's Choice' and the choir sang "Redemming Love."
