Snowmobilers to ride for Timmy on January 30 If Mother Nature and Old Man Winter can just get together over the next couple of weeks, the ninth annual Snowarama for Easter Seals will be held at the lakefront in Port Perry. Snowarama is scheduled to start at the Latcham Centre in Port Perry on Sunday, January 30, 1983 and Snowmobile Clubs from the area have been able to get everything ready - except the snow. In the case there is not enough snow on January 30, the event will be held on Sun- day, February 20. Timmy's Snowarama for Easter Seals is the largest snowmobile event in. the... world, and takes place in 27 locations across Ontario from January 22nd to March 5th. Last year, thousands of On- tario Snowmobile Clubs and volunteers were able to break the $1 million target for the first time ever, and it is hoped they will be able to repeat the goal again this year. For the Port Perry ride, snowmobilers may register at the Latcham Centre at the lakefront from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m. on January 30. The route for the ride will be determin- ed just prior to the start depending on the weather conditions. All riders must arrive with -sufficient fuel of their own to start, but additional fuel will be available near the half- way point free of charge to all registered riders. January 18, 1983 -- 15 Pee Wee A's battle Oshawa to 3-3 tie An exhibition game on Monday, January 10th in Port Perry between The Legion Pee Wee A's and The Oshawa Rangers ended in a 3 all tie. After having a two goal lead at the end of one period, Port seen this vanish as Oshawa lit up the scoreboard twice. Port regained the lead before the completion of the second. The tying goal for Oshawa came at the 14:42 mark of the third. Scoring for Port were Mark Barkey, Brad Menzies and Robbie Brown, John Lally picked up two assists while Warren Geer, Scott Feasby and Robbie Brown had one apiece. For the Legion Pee Wee A's it was another night of superb hockey, when one watches goal posts hit, goals scored when the Ref does not see it, tremendous skating ability and close checking from both teams which they displayed in all three periods. Excellent penalty killing prevented the opposition from capitalizing ~n Ports many penalties in the second and third periods. Ballingall played a strong game between the pipes in allowing only one goal for a 5-1 decision over Stouffville. Only one goal found the mark in the first period, a rebound shot from Blair Bailey ended up on the stick of Daryl Leatherdale- who made no mistake getting it over the shoulder of goalie Evans, Steve Connors also earned an assist. From the opening faceoff of the second Mark Barkey scored from John Laly giving Port a 2-0 lead. John Lally from Brad Traves made it 3-0 on a power play after Stouffville took the first penalty of the game at the 12:50 mark. A two way passing play from Warren Geer to Brad Menzies back to Geer had Port up by 4. Stouffville scored their only goal seconds later while Port was serving two minors. Mark Barkey finished off the scoring at the midway pooint assisted by Warren Geer and Andrew Steele. Our hometown Pee Wee A's are to be commended on their excellent performance and sportsmanship when they played Sutton on Sun. Jan. 16th. They went into Sutton to play hockey and play they did despite the abuse they endured. Port outplayed and outskated the oppostion, which resulted in a 6-1 victory. Three goals were scored in the first period, two of these by Port, Warren Geer open- ed the scoring on a pass from Mike Sorley and Shawn Nanay, Sutton retaliated to even the score, Warren Geer picked up his second goal on a breakaway after taking a pass from defensemen Feasby and Traves. Only 1:09 had been played in the second period when Feasby carrying the puck into Sutton end, scored from a difficult angle, the remainder of the period remained scoreless despite many power play attempts. Mike Sorley tuck- ed one in the corner after a scramble in front of the net to start Port off in the third, Brad Menzies and Scott Feasby each picked up an assist. At the 6:09 mark John Lally assisted by Brad Menzies and Warren Geer made the score 5-1, a pass from Blair Bailey to Daryl Leatherdale back to Brad Traves on the point finished off the scoring for Port Perry. Chris McConnell allowing only one goal play- ed an outstanding game in net, coming up with several key saves. This now completes the regular league play and the Pee Wee A's have a record of 16 wins - 3 losses - 1 tie. This coming weekend, the team will be playing in the Bracebridge Tournament, then the following weekend (Jan.29) will be our home tournament. Pacers have up and down week On Tuesday, January 11, Port's Midget Pacers travelled to Beaverton to lose by a close 4-2 score. It was late in the second period before Port got on the score board. Scoring for Port was Vaughn McKee assisted by Dave 'new wave' Kemp and Dean Smith scoring assisted by Fred Cockerton. On Thursday, January 13, Keswick's Midgets fell victim to Port's outstanding team work. Port having only nine players won 9-2. This was one of the best games Port has played in a long time. Goals going to Jamie Lee (3); Jeff "'sluggo"' John- stone, Steve Lee, Dean Smith, Fred Cockerton, Vaughn McKee and Bryan Horton with one each. Assists going to Smith (4); McKee (2); Cockerton (2): Horton, Meisner, J. Lee and Johnstone with one each. Saturday, January 15, Port hosted 1st place Unionville and lost 8-4. The game was much closer than the score indicated, as Unionville's last 2 goals were in an empty net. Port once again played very well with their 9 players. The entire game was a close fought match with the score see-sawing back and forth. Scoring for Port was Sluggo with two, Cockerton and Kemp each with one. "Assists went to Kemp (2); and Johnstone and Smith. Paul Bateman came back off the injured list to share the goal tending duties with Paul Goreski. Midget Hawks lose chance for homeice On January 2nd, the Port Perry Midget II travelled to Uxbridge to play a strong team. This game decided who gets home ice ad- vantage in the playoffs. Port came out the losers 9 to 3. Good game to the goalie, Tracy Wright. Scoring for Port was Mark Farroll from Darren Cearns then Darren Cearns from Dean Haugen and scoring one more time Darren Cearns from Dean Haugen. On January 6, the Ice Hawks played host to Wood- view Park from Oshawa. Woodview played a strong game but couldn't get by our defence. Port came out the winners 3 to 1. Scoring for Port were Darren Cearns from Ian Porter and Mark McConnell. Jill Cox from Ian Porter and Mark McConnell. The last goal, Darren Cearns from Ian Porter. Great goal work by Tracy Wright. Port played host to another team, this team was from Woodville. This is the first time Port played Woodville. Both teams played a good end to end game that ended up in a tie.
