]) oF doh Ary nl SERCEREE 183) Applications accepted by Ontario Regiment Col. L.P. Morin, Com- manding Officer, The Ontario Regiment, ann- ounced Jan. 10th, that appli- cations will now be accepted for the Regiment for the Regiment's annual Summer Training pro- gramme. This popular re- cruit training programme has been in existence for the past twenty-five years. In addition, to the Armoured Crewman Trades, this year vacancies will be available in such combat support trades as: Combat Clerk, Weapons Technicians, Vehicle Technicians, Medical Assistants, Supply technicians and Cooks. Successful applicants will take part in nine weeks of training conducted at the Armoury in Oshawa, and at Canadian Forces Bases, Borden and Petawawa. The training will consist of a two weeks Recruits Course, three weeks Basic Training and the remainder for trade qualifications and annual Summer Camp with the Regiment. The Recruits will earn approximately $200 per week. In addition, to the summer course an Office Training programme is available for students in post secondary school studies. This scheme provides students with three summers of employment while qualifying them as a Reserve Armoured Officer. Application for this course must be made by 31 January 83. Applicants for either course should contact the Recruiting Officer, Capt. Z. Trubela, at the Col. R.S. Mclaughlin Armour, 53 Simcoe St., North, Oshawa on Tuesday or Thursday evenings, between 7:30 and 10:00 p.m. or call 723-3451. Port Perry Pledge Number 985-7801 Weekend with Stars Telethon There will be a pledge line open again this year in Port Perry during the "Weekend With the Stars Telethon' for Cerebral Palsy, January 22-23. The telethon will be carried on WKBW Channel 7 in Buffalo. In the past five years, telephone numbers from dif- ferent pledge centres have been flashed on the screen throughout the telethon but because there is no Canadian station participation and the Telethon station will receive here in Canada originates from WKBW in Buffalo, the flashing of local numbers is not possible. The telephone number for Port Perry and surrounding areas this year will be (416) 985-7801. All of the money pledged will be used for the Participa- tion House programs in Oshawa. The funds are distributed to the Apartment Project for the severe " physically and mentally han- dicapped, the Daily Living Centre which the handicap- ped attend to learn living skills, the future hoped for Core Centre and research in- to birth defects. All in all, the money pledged is for a very worthwhile cause. Of money pledged, the PH program will receive 92 per cent of all advance pledges. Advance Pledges are those pledged before the Telethon. For pledges recefved during the telethon the breakdown is 85 per cent. A first this year will be the use of Mastercharge or Visa. Pledges can be made on these two credit cards. Anyone wishing to make an advance pledge please call Betty or Stan Mills any even- ing at the above number. Port Perry has supported the Telethon during the past few years, and their help has been appreciated. This will possibly be the last Telethon, (there are rumours that another fund-raising project will be undertaken in the future because of the number of Telethons now being held) and we ask that you please help us again. Because of the fact that our numbers will not be on the screen as in past years, volunteers will not be needed to help with the phones. "The Telethon will start at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22nd, and end at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23rd. Pledges will be taken at 985-7801 from 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd, until midnight and then again on January 23rd from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Once again, advance pledges will be taken from now until the Telethon.
