Re PORT PERRY STAR -- Tues. December 21, 1982 -- 7A George puts down his pen after 30 yrs. as a Star correspondent by Marg Tremblay Mr. George Kilpatrick, who has written the Cedar Creek news for the past 30 years has moved from our community into Port Perry. Needless to say, we are very sorry to see him leave but we send with him our very best wishes for health and happiness in his new home. George moved to Cedar Creek in 1937 from British Columbia to live on the farm that had belonged to his family since 1841. Ever since George moved to Cedar Creek he has been an in- tegral part of the comm- unity. He always had the time to collect for the Heart Fund, the Cancer Society, flowers for the bereaved family, or for a gift for a newly married couple. For many years George did this work on foot as he did not drive or own a car. He served as Secretary Trea- surer of the old school board for six years and worked in one capacity or another at election time for a great many years. Although the above work for the community was very important, I think the biggest contribution George made to Cedar Creek was the writing of the news each week. With the advent of rural school consolidations, many communities such as ours that had no other common meeting place such Be extra careful of fire during Christmas season Fire can be a dangerous enemy and this is a danger- ous period of the year. Before erecting it, cut an inch or so off the bottom to help it absorb more water. Place it in a sturdy stand containing water, and tie it securely. Check the water level every day. A dry tree is doubly dangerous. Locate the tree away from heat radiators, fireplaces etc. and make certzin it does not block any exit passeges. Finally, take the tree down as soon after Christmas as you can. Remember it is always a fire hazard and all the family should be care- ful." as a church began to lose their identities as separtate communities. So when George wrote of old neigh- bours moving away and new neighbours moving in, the birth of a new baby, a death, or about an accomplishment of one of our children it helped us to keep -in touch with one another and keep alive the sense of belonging to a community. Jn these days when there is a tend- enacy to get lost in the crowd I think this sense of belong- ing to a small community is very important. If the security given by your own immediate family is supp- lemented by a caring inter- ested community it does much to feelings of self- worth of our young people. For this reason we would like to try to keep Cedar Creek News and would appreciate the co-operation of all living here. If you have any news please contact Mary Trem- blay at 985-3349 or Shirley Cummings at 985-7660, we would sure appreciate it. T Mother Jackson's Open Kitchen Ltd.
