Let's make a date to visit with Bert Dodd, also known as the 'The. Senior Chef". Actually, he's appearing on CHEX television every Sunday, starting on October 3rd, Bert Dodd is a 65 year old amateur chef and former civil servant. He spends a half-hour every week on TV showing seniors how to make delicious nutritious meals. "The Senior Chef" is an award winning television series, praised by judges as "innovative" and a "delight to watch". The series was produced in British Columbia by Ministry of Health Nutritionists. It has been shown across the country. Reactions of seniors who have viewed the series is of surprise and delight at the discovery that nutritious meals need not be expensive. Bert uses recipes that are easy to prepare and serve only one or two people (often, that's important for people who live alone and don't know how much to cook.) This is the first time "The Senior Chef' will be televised in Durham Region. Rita Galinauskas, Public Health Nutritionist for Durham Region, has been No lice inspection (From page 1) the past ten years or so, and last year alone, there was a 33 per cent increase in the number of incidents. Ms. Schaefer says there is still much public mis- understanding and confusion about head lice. For example, it is a myth that only "dirty children" get head lice. And it is not just children, but adults as well, who can become infected. Ms. Schaefer is urging all parents to read the informa- tion sheet carefully when their youngsters bring it home from school. And parents should be inspecting their children's heads once a week at least. An adult louse is an insect (about 1-8 of an inch long) which cannot fly or jump. It . clings to the hair near the scalp. The eggs (called nits) are very small, white in colour and oval-shaped. They cling to the shaft of the hair and hatch in about a week. There are several special medicated shampoos which are effective in getting rid of lice. These are available at any drug store, and it is very important that instructions be followed precisely. Besides food preparation, topics such as food budget- ing, shopping and menu planning are presented during the thirteen weeks. Tune in on Sunday, October 3 at 2:00 p.m. for an informative and entertaining half hour. Busy week at Port by Tracey Elson This past week has been an extremely busy one as all of the many clubs and organ- izations at Port Perry High seemed to get underway. The school yearbook and newspaper are booming and both seem to be well on the way to being successes. Keep an eye open for up- coming sicker sales folks! A note to any aspiring actors and actresses -- play - tryouts will be upcoming within the next three weeks. According to reliable student council and athletic committee sources, the sale of activity cards and athletic cards has gone very well despite-the fact that athletic cards have gone up in price. Remember, all athletes who wish to participate in any interschool sports must purchase an athletic card. Lights...camera...action... you guessed it...Wednesday was picture day. Girls were running around primping themselves as the boys practiced their "cool"' smiles. Due to a lot of scrambling on the part of Mr. Hill and others, the day was a success. If you missed having your picture taken, an alternate date is being arranged. A foreign child collection will take place this week on Wednesday and Thursday. All money raised will go towards supporting our foreign children in India and the Phillipines. Any donations from you, Rebels, will be appreciated.
